Based on the book by Stephan Elliott and Allan Scott, Priscilla Queen of the Desert bursts onto the stage as a vibrant, feel-good musical that is as heartfelt as it is spectacular.
The story follows three friends – two drag queens and a transgender woman – as they journey across the Australian outback in a battered silver bus named Priscilla. What unfolds is a hilarious and deeply touching road trip, culminating in the performance of a lifetime. At its core, it’s a celebration of friendship, resilience, and the courage to live unapologetically as yourself.

This production truly shines thanks to its exceptional cast. Adele Anderson delivers a standout performance as Bernadette, bringing wit, poise and emotional depth. Kevin Clifton is full of warmth and charm as Tick/Mitzi – and his vocals are a genuine surprise, showcasing an impressive singing ability. Nick Hayes is electric and very much loved as Felicia, injecting energy and attitude into every moment, while Peter Duncan is perfectly cast as Bob. Together, the quartet are great fun to watch and it’s impossible to take your eyes off them.
The staging by Andrew Exeter is slick and inventive, seamlessly transporting the audience across the vast Australian landscape while keeping the energy high throughout. The costumes, designed by Vicky Gill, are bold, flamboyant and endlessly creative, they perfectly capture the spirit of the show. Really like the sequin dresses on the Divas and would love one myself.
Equally impressive is the work of Craig Forrest-Thomas, whose wigs, hair and makeup are matched perfectly to the outfits. A special shout-out for the speed and precision of the transformations, genuinely mind-blowing – leaving you wondering how on earth such intricate looks are achieved so quickly.
The choreography is another major highlight. Crafted by Matt Cole and Thomas Charles, it is upbeat, energetic and completely infectious. Loved the over exaggerated dance moves like the Tina Turner section. I giggled lots.

And then there’s the soundtrack – an absolute crowd-pleaser. Packed with iconic hits like It’s Raining Men, I Will Survive, Hot Stuff and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, it’s essentially a disco party on wheels. There’s even a moment where the audience is encouraged to sing along, creating a wonderful shared experience that lifts the entire theatre.
Ultimately, Priscilla Queen of the Desert is a joyous, glitter-filled celebration that leaves you smiling from ear to ear. With its powerful message, dazzling visuals and unforgettable performances, it’s a show that 100% deserves the full five stars and I would absolutely love to see it again.
Go and see it if you can – it’s a total joy.
