Today we were kindly invited along to Paulos Circus, ready to see their new and exciting 2018 show. Late last year we had been to the Chipperfield Circus, and we found that amazing, so we had high expectations of today’s show… And we were not disappointed. It was fantastic.

From the box office, to the end of the show, the staff were all friendly and accommodating and gave us a great 70 minutes of entertainment.

We had wrapped the girls up warm expecting the tent to be cold, but it was surprisingly and pleasantly warm. It was clean, tidy and smelt of fresh sawdust.

Both girls were excited, but Matilda more so, it was her first time at the Circus and she sat and stood in awe the whole time with a massive smile on her face.

We were fortunately sat ring side and had a fantastic view of the acts (although the layout was great so I think wherever you sat, you would have a good view) . The show was captivating and we were all mesmerised the whole way through. The time flew by as we watched the numerous acts. And when it finished, I was shocked to see 70 minutes had gone by. Definitely the sign of a very good show.

My favourite was the Ring of Death which saw two male acrobats from Ecuador, spinning 360 degrees on a suspended metal figure of 8, with only their strength, balance and skill keeping them from falling.

I asked Matilda (aged 5) what her favourite part was and she said;

“The funny man. He was funny because he has a funny nose and he thought he could play music but the silly man wouldn’t let him. I nearly told him off”

Matilda and Jemima had both spent the time Mr N was on the stage, laughing hysterically at him and at one point I thought they might fall off of their chairs.

As a really nice touch, Mr N came out after the show to give the girls a hi-five which was lovely.

Jemima (aged 2) told me that her favourite was the “dancer with the hoop”, obviously referring to the trapeze artist who hung suspended in the air holding onto the hoop either with her hands and a tight grip, or upside down by her foot in a fabric hook on the ring. Done so elegantly and beautifully. I can see why this act was Jemimas favourite.

My husband came out of the show saying “I really wish I could throw knives like that, that would be cool”, so I guess that was his favourite bit. Being sat at the front we could see the detail of the knives being thrown and how close they were to the lady on the stand – such skill.

The whole show highlighted just how talented the circus crew were. Knife throwing, trapeze artist, tightrope walking, juggling… So many acts of skill. Pushing each act to the limit. Why just walk across a tightrope high in the air, when you can walk along carrying a chair and then sit on the chair in the middle of the rope… And then… Well, I’ll let you go and watch to see what happens next.

There were numerous other acts but I wouldn’t want to spoil all of the surprises.

Such a fantastic show, with acts of comedy, skills and thrills.

It’s definitely a circus show that you don’t want to miss.

Perfect for little ones and older people too, a great family trip out. And great value too.

It is on at Melbicks until 2nd April and then moving to @rokohealthclub_york from 5th – 29th April.

Thank you Paulos Circus.

      Hi Nicky, unfortunately they haven’t released dates for Pontefract yet. They are currently in York. They have a Facebook group where they update details. As soon as I find out, I can message you on here :-). X
