Cannon Hill Park

Posted on 13/05/201806/03/2022

Location: Cannon Hill Park, Edgbaston Rd, Birmingham, B12 9QH

Free to enter by foot.

Parking Charges: £2 for up to 4 hours. £3 for over 4 hours.

Yesterday, we had been invited to review a show at The Mac (review of the show to come later), so we headed into Cannon Hill Park after the theatre show had ended.

The girls could spot the rollercoaster from inside the foyer of the Mac, so you can probably guess where we were going to first.

Yes, that’s right, the Fun Park.

We headed straight in and went to the Fun Pass machines. The attendants do not take cash and instead you buy tokens which get uploaded onto a card that the attendants swipe. We put £10 on the card which gave us 12 credits.

The Fun Park is aimed at children under ten years old. So it was perfect for our girls who are two and five.

Me and Jemima went on the Hilly Billy Train Ride first. Jemima spent the majority of the time shouting ‘choo choo’ and smiling happily.

Next it was Matilda and her Daddies turn on the Spinning Coaster, a pinball style roller-coaster for children above 95cm tall. I’m told Matilda giggled all the way around, which you can certainly see on my photographs.

The girls then went on the Fun Land Express, jumping in a green car together that they both ‘drove’ around the track which had two levels.

There were a variety of other rides here including a huge inflatable slide, Frozen Swing, a jumping shoe ride and some machines to play on, including a Peppa Pig Car, Fireman’s shooting water game and a bus to ride.

After the Fun Park we headed for a walk and saw the Golden Putter Mini (Crazy) Golf. We didn’t have a go as anyone who has met Jemima will know she’s a hilarious and cheeky little monkey and we are unsure peoples balls wouldn’t be picked up by her and moved. Ha. So we watched from behind the fence and decided we would come back in the school summer holidays when Jemima is at nursery and Matilda is off school. The course had 36 holes of fun, including water obstacles and twists and turns. A great added feature is the fact that the course is wheelchair friendly.

The grounds of Cannon Hill Park are lovely and perfect for picnics and photographs.

We sat and enjoyed a slice of cake from a cafe in The Mac (another review of The Mac will be uploaded later as it deserves a post of its own).

There are a number of places to eat and drink here, or you could bring a picnic. There’s also a couple of ice cream vans too (the girls visited one at the end of our trip).

The girls then wanted to play on the playground, so we headed over, walking by the Swan Lake Boating which was reasonably priced (£8 for 30 minutes on a Small Swan pedal boat and £12 for a Big Swan pedal boat).

We got to the first playground (Cannon Hill has two but we only visited the one which is aimed more at under 7s). And the girls both ran off to have fun.

The playground was great with lots of slides, climbing steps and platforms, bridges, a tunnel and swings. The bonus for the adults was we got to enjoy a lovely view of the lake whilst watching the children play.

Matilda really enjoyed being able to race Jemima down the slides that were next to each other and they both loved running around the huge climbing frame.

Matilda waved at the Land train from the playground as we saw it go by. I didn’t manage to see how much it was to go on the Land Train but it seemed very popular every time it drove by.

If you have time. You could pop into the Nature Centre (Birmingham Wildlife Conservation Park) which is on the edge of Cannon Hill Park. We didn’t have time yesterday, but will head back again soon to do a more recent review for you all.

After the playground we headed back to the car. We had all had a lovely time and plan to come back again in the very near future.

A great family filled day out, that didn’t cost a lot of money.

Hey, if you liked this review or maybe were inspired to try this out because of my post, you can always buy me or the kids a drink or a slice of cake on our next big trip! Just hit the button below, if you want to. 🙂

Nice to see somewhere that has a decent selection of rides for the little ones. Usually there are only one or two and the rest hit you with height restrictions.

I live next to cannon hill x and it is truly beautiful. All the things mentioned in review ! are true , and then some? A couple more features worth a mention? In the summer there is a mini train, which runs around the park, from the little Train station (hut really) at the top of park, the top being? if standing by the MAC, also at the top of park is a lovely tea room, next to some of the oldest buildings (houses), on the park! If you continue to walk the path past the play areas, also mentioned, you will be walking along the river Rea, which has a big population of Kingfishers , nesting around every little bridge , the Rea river is one of the oldest running right through south birmingham, the river Bourne which runs right through Bournville , directly through the Famous Cadbury’s. Factory. Then into the River Rea, Hazelwell, Stirchley. The path , passed the play areas, Past a as another water pool, to the very edge of cannon hill park , which is where you can access the nature centre, but if continue on the path, of splits in to two separate pathways. Continue on straight and you will walk along side the river Rea, but follow the path path uphill? You will be at the start of Holders End Woods, fairly old, & natural beauty. Home to many nesting green parakeets, and many different bird species, with a perfect panoramic views , a bird spotters paradise .
Anyways, the list goes on xx

I just thought it would be nice to big up ? Somewhere? I know well and deserves to be promoted x
