Willow in Mere Green: A Mediterranean-Inspired Dining Experience

Posted on 28/02/202528/02/2025

If you’re looking for a restaurant in Mere Green that feels like an escape to the Mediterranean, let me introduce you to Willow. Nestled in the Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield, this botanical-themed restaurant is a breath of fresh air, offering a relaxed yet stylish setting perfect for any occasion.

A Mediterranean Haven in Sutton Coldfield

From the moment you step inside, Willow transports you to sunnier shores. The open, airy interior is effortlessly chic, striking the perfect balance between elegant and inviting. By day, it’s a light-filled space, ideal for catching up over coffee or a leisurely lunch. By night, it transforms into a cosy retreat, with twinkling fairy lights wrapped around an indoor tree, setting the scene for intimate dinners and special celebrations.

Fresh, Locally Sourced & Expertly Cooked

Willow’s philosophy is simple: fresh, locally sourced ingredients, expertly prepared and beautifully presented. Everything is made to order, so while there might be a short wait for food, I promise – it’s worth it.

What We Ate & Drank at Willow, Mere Green

Drinks

Fleurs De Pomme Nojito – A refreshing blend of Aperol, Stolichnaya Raspberry Vodka, apple juice, pineapple purée, and fresh grapefruit.

Children’s Chocolate Milkshake – A thick, creamy, chocolatey dream!

Mains

Roasted Mushroom & Bacon Rigatoni – Tossed in a garlic & herb cream sauce, this was rich, comforting, and utterly delicious. I couldn’t resist adding Chicken Milanese for an extra indulgent touch and it was an excellent choice.

Hot Freshly Baked Garlic Bread [V] – Topped with mozzarella, Italian cheese, and basil oil, this was cheesy, fragrant, and impossible to resist (so filling though, so be sure to share this with someone).

The Little Rooster (Children’s Menu) – A buttermilk fried chicken burger with lettuce, tomato, crispy maple bacon, and bacon mayonnaise, served in a brioche bun with skin-on fries. The portion was huge, and yes, I did the obligatory mum taste-test – it was amazing!

Dessert

Warm Greek Orange Cake – Moist, citrusy, and paired beautifully with Greek yoghurt icing, cardamom custard, and basil-poached oranges. We had our hearts set on two other puddings, but they were sold out (not surprising, as they sounded incredible!).

Exceptional Service & The Small Details That Matter

The food at Willow is fantastic, but the service is what really makes the experience stand out. Jemma, our server, was outstanding – friendly, attentive, and genuinely passionate about making sure every guest had a great time.

A quick note: a discretionary 7.5% service charge is added to the bill, even for tables of two. But here’s the good news – it’s shared directly among the entire team, which I think is a great touch.

Final Thoughts on Willow, Mere Green

It’s easy to see why Willow is already one of the most popular restaurants in Mere Green after only being open for a week. The Mediterranean-inspired interiors, fresh and flavourful dishes, and warm hospitality make it a spot you’ll want to return to again and again.

If you’re in Sutton Coldfield and looking for a restaurant that delivers on both food and atmosphere, Willow is a must-visit. Whether you’re stopping by for a coffee, brunch, lunch, dinner, or cocktails, you won’t be disappointed and how nice to have a family friendly restaurant too with a great selection of meals for children.
