Sorry for the delay in posting this, but I reckon it is better late than never. So, what is on this week? Here’s our day to day breakdown:
Starting with this evening,
Friday 26th October 2018:
Tonight, the Smallhousebigtrips household is heading over to the launch night of Dr Nerium’s Garden of Ghouls at Birmingham Botanical Gardens (keep your eyes peeled for Insta stories and a review coming). It’s open for the public from tonight too, so do jump onto the website and book tickets to come along. It’s on from tonight until Sunday 4th November 2018.
Take on the live action spooky trail through the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, or should we say The Birmingham Scare Gardens, featuring street food, performers, music and entertainment, with earlier time slots available suitable for the whole family and all ages.
Saturday 27th October 2018:
Are your children Milkshake fans? Well Birmingham Town Hall are hosting Milkshake Live twice. First showing at 12pm. Second showing at 3:30pm
Like a spooky story and live not far from Kings Heath? Why don’t you give this a try at Kings Heath Library (it is free too):
From today the big Play Barn are also starting their Halloween festivities
Sunday 28th October 2018:
Big Fish Little Fish Family Rave (with DJs Mark Arrcher and Cybergroove): 2pm at The Nightingale Club.

We all loved it, so much that we are back again and this time it is Halloween dress up. Be prepared for some cute little witches.

Fancy a fun and educational party with your 1-5 year olds? Try a Sounds Right Phonics Party. £10 per child. Sibling discount. We haven’t tried the halloween party before but we did go to the easter party also held at St James Centre in Mere Green.

Thursday 1st November 2018:
All you LEGO fans will be happy as today sees the opening of BRICKLIVE. The Smallhousebigtrips family are heading along to review it on Friday but it starts from today and runs until Sunday.

Or maybe you would like to head to Birmingham Hippodrome for a theatre story session with the cast of the spellbinding children’s show, Emily Brown and the Thing?
This half term, ahead of a Christmas run at Birmingham Hippodrome’s Patrick Studio (17 Dec – 6 Jan), the cast of Emily Brown and the Thing will be hosting two free interactive storytelling sessions for young children and their families on Thursday 1 November.
Beginning at 11am in the Birmingham Hippodrome foyer, young children are invited to join the cast for a free workshop where members of the cast will read and share sections from the extremely popular children’s book, Emily Brown and the Thing. The session will be followed by a host of free craft activities including the chance for children to create their own monstrous Thing. Visitors are asked to arrive on the day and head for level 3.
The cast will then head out to Waterstones Birmingham for another session, colourfully bringing the story to life amongst the bookstore’s Children’s section. The performance begins at 1pm on the Third Floorand free tickets can be booked on the Waterstones website.
Friday 2nd November 2018:
In the morning Monster Mush at Emmanuel Church.
Then at night the bonfire and firework displays start.
Come along with family and friends and enjoy a spectacular display.
- 5pm – Doors open
- 6:30pm – lighting the bonfire
- 7:45pm – fireworks display
Tickets will be sold online only at a discounted rate – admission charges apply for adults are £5, children £3 and family ticket £12. Under 2s are free.
There will be a junior fair, live entertainment, licensed bar, glow lights plus hot and cold food stalls.
Or if you’re the other side of Birmingham, you could try Rowheath Pavilion and their fireworks show which looks very good.
Saturday 3rd November 2018:
Birmingham Symphony Hall will be the place to be at 11:30am today as they have live on stage, Guess How Much I Love You. The story nearly every child has a copy of in their bedrooms.
Watch Little & Big Nutbrown Hare settle down after a bedtime story and re-awaken to discover the delights and colours of each season as they compete to measure their love for each other in this timeless loveable story.
Explore this playful story of love and nature as it unfolds on stage through puppets, live music and interactive play for children 3 years and up.
