1. Birmingham Light Festival FREE

Experience Birmingham in a whole new light at Birmingham Light Festival, taking place from February 19 to 22, 2025, between 6 PM and 10 PM. The city centre will be transformed into an illuminated open-air gallery featuring 11 dazzling installations to enjoy for FREE with over 50 immersive events across Birmingham, too (many an additional cost).

Highlights include “Flux” by Collectif Scale in Snow Hill Square, showcasing dancing light beams synchronized with electronic music, and the interactive “Floor is LAVA x Silent Disco” in Centenary Square, where participants dance to tunes while avoiding illuminated ‘lava’ patches. All installations are within walking distance, making it easy to explore multiple artworks in one evening.

This free, family-friendly festival offers a unique opportunity to see Birmingham’s streets, squares, and public spaces in a vibrant new light.

2. FREE Family Fun Day at Lapworth Museum of Geology

Discover the Secrets of the Giant Crocodile Skull with this fascinating (and educational) day out on Thursday, 20th February 2025.

Enjoy live demonstrations, interactive storytime, museum trails, and arts & crafts throughout the day – perfect for curious minds of all ages. Don’t miss the chance to see this colossal specimen up close and learn more about its incredible history.

Live Demonstration (11 AM & 2 PM): Discover the secrets of the crocodile skull with Jake in the Evolution of Life Gallery.

Storytime (12 PM & 3 PM): Gather around as Anna brings prehistoric tales to life in the Active Earth Gallery.

Arts & Crafts (All Day): Get creative in the Education Room with puzzles, crafts, and more.

Museum Trails (All Day): Pick up a trail from reception and explore the museum at your own pace.

3. Discovery Days at Staffordshire Regiment Museum

Discover the Staffordshire Regiment Museum this half-term with their team of volunteers, on Tuesday 18th and Thursday 20th February 2025.

‘Sign up’ at the First World War attestation station inside the museum before you take a tour of the WW1 Trenches.

Family-friendly trails and craft activities
Explore the static display of military vehicles on site and enjoy the outdoor play area.

Activities run from 10am-3pm.

Free parking on-site. The bus from Lichfield and Tamworth stops outside the museum. Admission charges apply. If you gift-aid, you get 12 months free entry.

4. Historical Hobbies at the Black Country Living Museum

Kids bored? Show them how children were entertained back in the day!

This February half term, Saturday 15 – Sunday 23 February, enjoy a family day out as you take a trip back in time and explore historical hobbies through the decades. Enjoy a whole day of family fun whilst discovering boredom busters of the past from Victorian doll making, Edwardian birdwatching, and 1950s games.

It’s the perfect day out with an entire historic town for you to explore. Meet a whole host of historic characters from Victorian times to the Swinging Sixties as you step into period houses, shops and industrial workplaces. With stories to discover, immersive experiences to enjoy and games to play, it’s a full day out with something new for everyone on every visit.

5. Kids half-term painting

For those with art fans, what about a creative activity? Join In2Colour Arts & Crafts at Brownhills Community Centre on Monday 17th February from 11am – 12:30pm for a Paint Your Own Unicorn or Dinosaur session (other designs available, too), perfect for children aged 3-12 (though older kids and adults are welcome to join in too!).

What’s included?

Choose from a unicorn or dinosaur (or paint both!) – Ā£8 for two models

Pre-mixed colours, including metallic shades for a magical finish

Sparkles to decorate once your masterpiece is dry

Tea, coffee, and squash for all painters

Booking & Walk-ins: You can book in advance or just turn up on the day, but unicorns are limited (15 available) and will be prioritised for those who book.

6. FREE Inventors Health Lab Workshop

Bring your little scientists along to the Inventor’s Health Lab Workshop for a fun, hands-on exploration of medical science on Thursday 20 Feb from 12:30 – 2:30pm.

This interactive session is perfect for children and their parents to learn and create together.

During the workshop, you will:

Build a Stethoscope: Craft your own stethoscope-like tool to listen to your pulse and discover how your heart works!

Create a Model of the Lungs: Design and take home your very own lung model to understand how breathing keeps us alive.

Whether you’re a budding inventor or simply curious about the human body, this workshop is sure to inspire creativity and curiosity.

Spaces are limited, so book now to avoid disappointment!

Please note this is a family workshop parents/carers are required to stay with children for the duration of the session. One ticket is suitable for families of 2-5 people

7. The Great Storybook Escape

This February half-term, something magical has happened at Tamworth Castle – their storybook has exploded, and beloved tales have escaped into the castle’s rooms! Can you help them track them down?

Step into an enchanting adventure where every room tells a different story. Armed with an interactive trail sheet, explore the castle and uncover visual clues to discover which magical tale has taken up residence. From Rapunzel’s plait dangling from the tower to the Mad Hatter’s tea party in the Drawing Room, every turn reveals a new mystery to solve.

To add to the fun, they’re inviting all young adventurers to dress as their favourite storybook characters. Whether you’re a courageous knight, a daring princess, or a mischievous fairy, you’ll feel right at home in the castle.

Once you’ve solved the trail, head to the Great Hall to let your imagination run wild and write the next line of your favourite story. Don’t forget to claim your special reward from reception for completing the trail.

8. Big Bounce Events

9. Half-term Clay Crafts

Head to Moor Pool Heritage Trust for a morning of crafting with clay and natural materials from 10.30am-12.30pm on Friday 21st February in the Main Hall.

Ā£3 per child to cover the cost of materials. No need to book, just head along!

Cakes and drinks available to purchase.

10. Wildlife Activities at Selly Manor

Explore the wild parts of the Selly Manor garden in this outdoor workshop.

Get hands-on, making a willow hanging ball and a wildflower seed bomb in activities led by the museum team.

If adults wish to go into the manor house, they need to purchase an entry ticket on the day.

11. History Makers at Kenilworth Castle

Head to Kenilworth Castle this February half term for heritage-inspired hijinks and hands-on shenanigans!

Outlaws wanted! Discover all about the legendary character of Robin Hood during an entertaining performance packed with daring stories for the whole family.

13. Planetpalooza at The Space Centre

14. STEM week at RAF Museum

This February half term, the RAF Museum Midlands is bringing an action-packed STEM Week, packed with hands-on activities, exciting demonstrations, and interactive experiences for all ages! Whether you’re fascinated by space, chemistry, flight, or engineering, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Step inside the Galileo Dome mobile planetarium and journey through the stars with three different space-themed shows catering to all ages. From Astronaut George for little ones to the immersive We Are Aliens! for older children and adults, these spectacular shows are a must-see (booking recommended!). 15. FREE Half Term Art Explorer at Ikon Gallery

Join artist-educator Sarah Hamilton-Baker as she leads families on a creative trail through Ikon’s exhibition Friends in Love and War – L’Éloge des meilleurĀ·es ennemiĀ·es.

This interactive experience encourages families and younger visitors to explore art and ideas together. Use your detective skills to discover new artworks and investigate details throughout the exhibition while enjoying drawing, collage, and mini-modelling activities.

The sessions take place through the day and showcase how Ikon’s free resources, including Art Explorer guides and Bloomberg audio content, plus our friendly team, can help expand the gallery experience for visitors.

16. FREE Play time at Oak House Museum, Wednesbury

Learn about strange medieval instruments and have a go at playing some yourself with music man, Andy Casserley on 18th February 11:00-3:00pm.

17. Fizz Pop Science Show at Wednesbury Museum and Art Gallery

Half term fun with loads of fizzing, popping, banging fun with this fantastic and exciting science show on Wednesday 19 Febuary, 12pm and 1pm.

18. FREE Tourmaline and the Museum of Marvels Trail at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery

From 15th – 23rd February (excluding 17th & 18th), you can complete the Tourmaline and the Museum of Marvels Trail, organised by Kids in Museums and Little Tiger at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery. The national trail for families is inspired by Tourmaline and the Museum of Marvels by Ruth Lauren – a fun, feminist adventure series for children aged 9 – 12.

Tourmaline’s strange new magical powers are causing chaos, and she desperately wants to know how to control them. When she receives a mysterious postcard promising her answers, she sets off on an unforgettable adventure to the Museum of Marvels.

19. Wild Wonders at Thinktank Science Museum

Exciting Half-Term Adventures at Thinktank Science Museum!

20. Half-term Lambing Week at Forge Mill Farm

It is the most special time of the year at Forge Mill Farm… Lambing time!

Head along and explore the lambing barn every weekend in February and February half term and help Forge Mill Farm welcome their new lambs and kids to the family. As well as all the usual fun on the farm, they have lots of Sheepy activities for you to take part in too:

– Meet the newborn lambs and expectant mums
– Take a seat on the viewing platform and look out for signs of lambing
– There’s a strong chance you may see a live birth
– Try the Lambing simulator and test your shepherding skills in Farmers Corner
– Have a go at some  ā€˜shepherding graffiti’
– Meet the farmers and hear their stories

21. Warwick Castle Festival of Archery
