On Sunday we headed over to Yardley to try out The Journeys End, Sizzling Pub and Grill and were eager to find out what the food was like.
The outside of the pub is similar to many of the Sizzling Pubs but had joined in with the new fashion of a splash of grey paint on the benches outside, a grey dining entrance sign and the window frames of the pub were grey too. Giving it a touch of a modern feel. Especially coupled with the bright blue. I much prefer this colour than the old orange colour the Sizzling Pubs used to be.
The car park was large with plenty of room to park, with a number of disabled spaces for those with a disability badge.
The entrance was bright and it was nice to see a sign welcoming people to the pub.
The girls were hungry and we were ready to get inside and order some food.
We walked in and a member of staff showed us to our reserved table. You don’t have to reserve a table here, it’s walk in service, but if you want to guarantee a table, they’re happy to keep one for you.
The menus were on the table already but they quickly grabbed some colouring sheets and pencil crayons for the girls which they were very chuffed with.
Matilda was hungry, so was straight to the menu to see what she could choose.
There were a couple of special offers to consider.
Children under 5 could have a drink, main course and a pudding for £3.99. Over 5’s for £4.99. Which we thought was great value. Especially with how extensive the menu was for children.
Matilda chose to have a children’s mixed grill with mash potato, a blackcurrant fruit shoot and a pudding.
Her food portion was a really good size and she ate it all up.
Jemima decided on a turkey pasta and salad dish, a large glass of milk and a pudding. This was the under 5’s portion which was just perfect for her.
I decided on a steak. The Pepper Jack Steak. Which was £11.79 and included an 8oz Sirloin Steak topped with Pepper Jack Cheese and sliced mushrooms and was served with chips, onion rings and a grilled tomato and mushroom. It also came with the most delicious creamy mushroom and brandy steak sauce.
It had been cooked slightly more well-done than I would have liked, so I recommend if ordering, you go for the option a little less done than you would usually have. It’s an easy mistake to make with steak and a busy kitchen, I’m forever over cooking mine at home.
It was still tasty and even at 10am this morning when I’m writing this review up, I could eat this meal now.
Hubby went for an Ultimate Plate called The All American Platter. For £9.79 he got half a rack of BBQ glazed pork ribs, BBQ glazed chicken wings, Southern fried Chicken pieces, chips, onion rings and a corn on the cob, served on a very large plate.
The menus for both adults and children were varied and large. A huge range of Sizzling dishes, platters, ultimate plates, steaks, burgers, the list is endless. At the end of our review is a link to the menu. Do take a look.
Once we had all emptied our plates we had a look through the dessert menu to see what we could fit in.
The girls both went for one of the options included within their meal deals. A create your own sundae option which they loved eating and playing with.
I went for the Chocolate Fudge Cake for £4.19 that was big enough for a whole family to eat together. It came served warm with two scoops of vanilla ice cream on the side. The girls both stole some of it and made happy noises whilst eating it. Having a sweet tooth, I really enjoyed it.
Jimmy went for a Treacle Sponge with custard and vanilla ice cream for £3.29 which him and the girls really enjoyed. Yes, our girls wanted everyone’s pudding.
You can see Jemima in the above picture just watching and waiting to leap in on her dad’s pudding.
Me and my husband Jimmy both had a pint of Pepsi Max each for our drinks and the total bill came to £42 (and a few pence).
In total we thought the amount of food that we all had, with drinks, just shows what great value a Sizzling Pub gives you.
It’s a great place to pop to for a quick family meal. Good value food. It’s not fancy, it’s not posh, but it’s filling and isn’t going to break the bank.
A shout out to the staff who were all very friendly and helpful. Going above and beyond when serving us. Freddy especially was very pleasant.
The pub caters for a variety of dietary needs and requirements with separate menus, so do check them out.
Here’s what Matilda thought of the meal…
A double thumbs up.
