The Owl Who Came for Christmas

Posted on 01/12/2025

Mon 1 – Sun 28 Dec | Tickets from £14.95 | Ages 3+ | 55 mins | Relaxed & BSL performances available

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

There’s something wonderfully magical about taking little ones to the theatre at Christmas, and The Owl Who Came for Christmas captures that perfect blend of festive sparkle, gentle humour (even adults will giggle a little) and wide-eyed wonder.

The show opens with a warm, simple “hello everyone”, immediately setting the tone for the interactive adventure to come. With a hardworking cast of just four performers – seamlessly switching between roles – the stage soon fills with a whole woodland of characters. Bunny, Squirrel, Fox, Reindeer, Mum, Dad, Lily and Ethan all appear, as well as two beautifully handled puppets: Rosie the Owl and an excitable little dog.

Puppetry is at the heart of the show and it’s done brilliantly. From the wiggly worms children are invited to hold (before Rosie swoops in to collect her tasty treats!) to Rosie’s gentle movements, everything is pitched perfectly for young audiences. There’s excitement too as we meet Bruce and Lee, the Christmas tree cutters – who unknowingly chop down Rosie’s tree while she’s fast asleep inside. When Lily and her mum arrive to pick out the family’s tree, they choose that very one… and Rosie’s unexpected Christmas adventure begins.

There’s a lovely appearance from Nick from the local wildlife centre – a character who definitely has a Santa-esque twinkle about him – and the festive atmosphere builds with snowfall, Christmas songs, and plenty of chances for the audience to join in. Perfect for keeping children’s attention.

With its short running time, friendly tone and engaging storytelling, this is an ideal Christmas outing for younger children aged around 3 to 8. Heart-warming, interactive, and full of gentle festive magic – the perfect December treat.

From authors John Hay and Garry Parsons, and inspired by a true story, this delightful tale reminds us how love, kindness and a little Christmas magic can make the most unexpected moments unforgettable.
