Summerhouse Bar and Grill

Posted on 17/02/201923/08/2020

Summer House Bar and Grill is a newly refurbished Bar and Grill Restaurant serving both modern Indian and an international menu.

When you click open the website you are greeted with the caption “Food made with love” and after experiencing the food myself, I can vouch that it is true.

The food is made with the finest ingredients; fresh, flavoursome and, well, utterly yummy.

Me and my friend Meg headed here last Wednesday for a spot of lunch.

Right from the moment we pulled up on the car park and saw the sign in one of my favourite colours (bright pink), I had a good feeling about this place.

Meg and Jemima (my 3 year old) headed on into the restaurant, as I had a nosey outside following closely behind them.

We walked in through the main pub section where we could see large HD plasma screens ready for the sports fans. And headed to one of the back rooms which was quite obviously the main restaurant room and was adjoining to the open kitchen. With the open kitchen I was able to say hello to the chefs and see the food being cooked. It was also great to be able to see how clean and tidy it was.

The restaurant decor was bright, light, contemporary and fresh. I loved the colour of the walls – they’re the same colour as my daughters bedroom and are said to relieve headaches and promote calmness and relaxation almost immediately and I felt this within the restaurant too.

Our waitress in the restaurant was Sandy, who was one of the friendliest and attentive waitresses that I have had for a very long time. Such an asset and credit to Summer House Bar and Grill.

Sandy handed us our menus and we ordered some drinks – two large cokes for us adults and a cup of squash for Jemima.

For starters we had poppadoms with a mixture of chutneys (£2.45). I tried the Tandoori King Prawn (£7.45) and Meg had the Cod Fish Pakora (£6.95).

The quality of the starters was great. Well presented, tasty and large portions. My Tandoori King Prawns were marinated in a mixture of special Indian spices and yoghurt and were cooked in a clay oven. Accompanied with a well presented side salad including a wedge of lemon.

The starter list is extensive and there’s plenty for all taste buds including veggie options, Gluten free options and plenty of meat options.

For our mains we decided to choose food off of the ‘authentic charcoal mixed grill and barbeque’ menu. I went for the Mixed Grill (£10.95), Meg went for the Veggie Grill (£13.95) and Jemima went for fish fingers and chips off the kids menu (£7.95) which is aimed at under 10s and includes a drink (fruit shoot or cordial) and 2 scoops of ice cream.

Jemima absolutely loved her fish fingers and chips. A picture is worth a thousand words and this picture does just that – look at her face (and the food portion size).

We ordered some sides to share, alongside our grills, including a garlic naan (£2.25), a plain naan (£1.95), some plain rice (£1.95) and some hand-cut chips (£2.50). When it all arrived (including our mixed grills) we realised we definitely had eyes bigger than our bellies. The portions were huge. Ginormous even. So much so, that I did take some of my meal home at the end as I couldn’t fit it all in (quite something for me as I have a huge appetite – and belly to match).

Sandy came over with the mixed grills still sizzling on the plates. Isn’t she such a smiley, happy waitress. And that food, just look at it still sizzling.

On my mixed grill was chicken wings, chicken tikka, lamb seekh kebab. This could easily feed two people with some sides of rice and naan to share too.

Megs Veggie Grill included; paneer tikka, Tandoori soya tikka, soya kebab, onion bhaji and aloo tikki.

Both meals were absolutely delicious. Cooked in the Summer House special spices marinade and served with salad and sauces. Even just writing this post review, is making me salivate wanting some more.

The general manager took a shine to Jemima and sat helping her to do some colouring whilst we ate our mixed grills- how lovely is that.

If the mixed grills do not take your fancy there’s plenty more to choose from, including gourmet burgers. I really want to go back and try the lamb and mint burger (£8.95). You can have traditional pub food, including Pie of the Week (£7.95), Sausage and Mash (£7.95) or even a Chicken or Soya Tikka wrap (£6.95) all served with fries.

There are also plenty of chicken/lamb/veg/fish curry dishes (starting from £6.50 each) and some Chinese choices including a chow mein stir fry (£5.95).

Jemima had a great time colouring, making friends with the staff, eating her main meal and enjoying her two scoops of strawberry ice cream as part of her kids meal.

The restaurant was well prepared for children, they had plenty of colouring for Jemima to do and an outdoor play area which would keep children entertained further between courses.

I managed to get a picture of Jemima with Sandy. And can’t resist sharing it with you. There’s not many waitresses (Sandy is the first) who create such a bond with my daughter.

We really enjoyed our time here at Summer House Bar and Grill and will be back again soon.

Thank you so much for having us visit.
