Have you heard of the company Sing-a-long-a? If not, now is definitely the time to look them up online and book tickets to their next show.
Sing-a-long-a Encanto was at The Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham yesterday and we headed along to see what we thought.
With my girls being HUGE Encanto fans (I think we must have watched it at least 20 times now) they were incredibly excited (Their Dad told me they were struggling to get to sleep the night before as were so super excited to go – I was out reviewing another show so didn’t get to do the bedtime routine that night). They were super excited when I told them a month or so ago that @singalonga were coming to Birmingham to one of our favourite theatres and we all leapt at the chance to go.
The Alexandra Theatre go above and beyond with their welcome experience. As we walked into the theatre yesterday we were greeted with the Encanto Sing-a-long-a shop selling slapbands (£3) and light up flower headbands (£7). Obviously the girls had to have some and to be honest, I was tempted to get myself some.
We then went upstairs to the sound of Beauty and the Beast being played on the piano. Even with a children’s family show, the pianist was performing. A very welcome addition every evening, but somewhat even more special during a lunchtime childrens show. I’ve never seen so many people stand by the pianist to watch him play, listening to classic Disney songs that everyone knew. It really got everyone in the mood.
“Interactive, inclusive, celebratory, uplifting and irresistible fun” is how the Sing-a-long-a team describe the show online and we couldn’t agree more. The girls laughed, jumped around, danced and sang their hearts out. We loved the goodie bags filled with hand clappers, a glow light, balloon and cards. All within your ticket price so no additional purchase required. Even the adults got a bag too.
The show starts with a live host who welcomes everyone and teaches some of the main dance routines. Making everyone laugh and get excited for the show. During the performance we hear her on the microphone helping the children know what movement they’re to do and every now and again, we have water sprayed into the audience, donkeys riding on her back and some photo opportunities. It is great family fun and we loved it so much.
