Ryman’s PYO Pumpkins

Posted on 15/10/202315/10/2023

Autumn brings with it a myriad of delightful activities, and one beloved tradition for many families is visiting a traditional Pick-Your-Own (PYO) pumpkin farm. We visited Ryman’s PYO Pumpkin farm today and fell head over heels in love.

This family-run farm located in Wall, Lichfield has a beautiful backdrop of open fields and offers a memorable autumnal experience, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the halloween spirit while selecting the perfect pumpkin for carving, decorating, or making delicious recipes (what do you do with yours?).

So, what does Ryman’s Pumpkins have that makes it so great?

1. The Great Pumpkin Hunt

Jump on the tractor (complete with seatbelts) where you get to enjoy a ride around the farm, taking in the fields including an animal paddock and also a field of Christmas trees that are growing (as an avid Christmas fan, this was lovely to see).

The tractor dropped us off in the PYO pumpkin field where you can grab yourself a wheelbarrow and venture out into the pumpkin patch, guided by rows upon rows of vivid orange pumpkins, in various shapes and sizes.

The thrill of finding the ideal pumpkin even more of an experience here as in amongst the orange pumpkins, there’s a huge variety of other pumpkins too. We saw yellow ones, white ones, a red one, even a salmon pink one! It’s such great fun for both children and adults alike. Whether you’re looking for a plump pumpkin to carve a spooky face or a petite one for a decorative centrepiece, the possibilities are endless.

And don’t forget whilst you’re in the PYO field, to treat yourself to some farm, fresh carrots, and potatoes that you can pick yourself.

2. Lots of games and fun

Lately, PYO pumpkin farms offer more than just the pumpkin-picking experience. Ryman’s have created a number of activities and photo points for families (including dogs!) and it’s great to note that many of them are free!

Children can enjoy the small hopper maze where you choose a hopper and bounce your way around. Can you find the exit?

There’s also a number of throwing games, including pumpkin bowling, throwing the hoop on the witches hat, kicking the ball in the goal, hay bales for climbing, and there’s face painting too! Jemima decided she wanted to be a rainbow tiger!

3. Tasty Treats

We enjoyed some treats from the catering stand, including toasties, bakes from the Cake Spa, the tastiest sausage rolls, and a hot chocolate that had all of us drooling. Yum!

4. Shop

There’s a quaint little shop where you can purchase Halloween inspired things, including witch baubles, Halloween decor, paint your own cookie sets, and other sweet treats.

5. Leave the mess at the farm

Rymans have thought of everything, including saving you the mess at home. Come and sit in their large pumpkin carving unit and use their stencils, stickers, and carving equipment to make your ideal pumpkin.

6. Photo opportunities

There’s loads of opportunities to take some great photos. If you do, tag us in them. We would love to see them.

We hope that, like us, Ryman’s will become your annual pumpkin picking tradition for years to come. This may have been our first time, but we are positive it will be the first of many many more to come.

Support local, support Rymans.
