Roxy Ball Room, Digbeth

Posted on 29/01/202006/03/2022

Yes! It has opened and we were lucky to head along on launch night to see what Roxy Ball Room is all about.

The over 18’s venue is bringing competitive social gaming to the streets of Digbeth, joining some of our other favourites including Drop Shot and The Floodgate.

Roxy brings the vibe of Snobs night club with it’s rock and roll indie soundtrack. For a moment I imagined I was 20 again dancing around the nightclub, but then that’s where the comparison ends, as Roxy is elegant, tasteful in appearance and I definitely wasn’t sticking to the floor. But there were people dancing, because this place makes you feel at home, safe to be yourself, let your hair down and have fun.

There are 5 games you can pre-book yourselves onto. Either online before you visit or at the desk when you arrive.

Beer Pong Battle Stations – just buy four pints and head to the table.

Bowling on the 10 full sized lanes where there’s no more pressing buttons to try and type your name in – it is all done at the desk.

We had a go at the bowling and really enjoyed it. Looking around the lanes, everyone was having a great time.

Sam K Leisure American Pool Tables can be hired for an hour at a time. These were really popular on the night and very well priced for an hours worth of games.

Olympic Standard Butterfly Ping Pong tables were also great fun. We played for about 20 minutes and loved that the terrain on the floor was fake grass, meaning we didn’t need to run and chase a ball across the room – much preferred when you have had a few to drink and have some heels on.

Finally, you can book onto the 22 Foot Tournament Standard Shuffle Board which I am told staff will show you how to play, if, like me, you have absolutely no idea.

Around the venue are old retro games and a basketball game.

There’s also a photobooth – always fun for a group shot and memento. You can have the picture emailed to you (as well as printed out) so everyone can have a copy.

The Photobooth. £3 a go. Photo taken by SmallHouseBigTrips.

Drinks are full of variety at Roxy. Craft beers, signature cocktails, liquor and soft drinks. There’s something for everyone.

The jump out drinks for me came from the Roxy Signature Cocktails (there’s 6 to choose from) but I liked the sound of these two:

Baby Got Back-Spin – Absolut Vodka, agave, mango puree, pineapple and lime.

Coconut Shuffle – Havana 3 year rum, coconut cream, mango puree, sugar syrup and lime.

The shots also sound interesting. 2 for £6 or £3.50 each (5 to choose from).

Peanut Butter and Jelly – Frangelico and Chambard

JD Fireball – Jack Daniels Fire, Havana Especial and tabasco.

If you are the designated driver of the night there are three Mocktails to choose from; Berry Smash, Fresco and Passionfruit Punch. And a variety of soft drinks too.

Food has an american feel with Pizzas, Burgers, Loaded Nachos and Chicken Wings. Theres something for all tastes.

I have only tried the pizza, but the two slices I had were delicious. With a BBQ Jackfruit pizza for the vegan visitor, to the Meat Feast or Chicken and Chorizo for the meat eater. There’s no scrimping on toppings here.

A Vegan plantbased burger, a BBQ Jackfruit burger and a Roxy Stack which has (ready for the extensive ingredients list?) a double beef patty, crispy chicken fillets, melted cheese, crispy bacon, mac n cheese bites, onion straws, shredded iceberg lettuce, red onion, burger sauce, served with cracked black pepper chips – you may want to eat this after playing some of the games, as I am pretty sure I would be in a food coma after all of that.

Prices start from £5 for food and the highest price is £30 for the large 750g pizza to share (not sure who measures in grams but this is about the size of a large dominoes pizza but with a flatbread base and rectangular shaped).

We had a fantastic time and will definitely be coming back soon.

Opening Times:

Mon – Thurs 3pm – 1am.

Fri, Sat and Sunday 12pm – 1am.

Address:

58 – 60 Heath Mill Lane, Birmingham, B9 4AR.
