Situated on picturesque Chamberlain Square, part of the new Paradise Development in Birmingham is where you will find Rosa’s Thai Cafe. Their first-ever Midlands restaurant. Serving traditional fresh, homemade Thai food, seven days a week from 12pm – 10pm.
We were incredibly excited to book a table for the soft launch with a 50% off all food offer for the first week.
We were greeted at the door by Jack who welcomed us in to Rosa’s and asked us to check in on the NHS Track and Trace before showing us to our table with our menu’s. Before leaving us to browse the menu, Jack asked us if we would like any water and crackers on the table. We said yes and got a pail of Thai Prawn Crackers with sweet chilli sauce (which we managed to eat through before the starters arrived as they were so tasty! Yum!).
After browsing the menu, Jack came over and asked us if we had any dietary requirements, after confirming we didn’t, we gave Jack our order and awaited our soft drinks and starters to arrive.
The starters arrived in a timely fashion and we were hugely impressed with the presentation of the food and size of the portions. Each starter came with 4 of the item chosen which we thought was great.
We went for;
Honey Marinated Pork Skewers (moo ping): These chargrilled pork skewers had a BBQ taste to them. The honey, soy sauce and roasted coriander seeds worked well on them and the homemade tamarind dipping sauce was delicious. A perfect accompaniment. If I was to be slightly picky, I’d have pulled them off the grill a minute earlier, but they were still brilliant and I will be ordering them again next time without a shadow of a doubt.
Sweetcorn Cakes (todmun khaopod): Our favourite starter of them all. Tender corn kernels fried in a light batter flavoured with kaffir lime leaves and red curry paste until crisp and golden. Served with sweet chilli sauce. What a starter! Absolutely amazing.
Chicken Satay (gai satay): These succulent, lemongrass-scented grilled chicken thigh skewers with peanut dipping sauce were everything I hoped them to be. The chicken was tender and the sauce was your typical satay sauce with crunchier peanuts and was warm too!
Crispy Prawns (goong tod): Crispy prawns are always a winner in my eyes and these were no different. Coated in crispy breadcrumbs, deep fried and served with Rosa’s sweet chilli sauce, they were a brilliant starter choice.
Our mains came about 10 minutes after finishing our starters and we ordered another pail of Thai Prawn Crackers. This time we had a satay sauce as an accompaniment which went really well too.
I chose the Chicken Pad Thai with an egg on top. You can always tell how great a Thai eatery is, by trying Thailand’s national dish, the Pad Thai. I was happy to find that they do indeed know how to make the dish and it may have topped my favourite version of the Pad Thai. It was cooked perfectly. The sweet and sour stir-fry with rice noodles, mixed with tamarind, palm sugar, eggs and crushed peanuts was delicious. Cooked just right and so tasty. I could eat this every day and highly recommend this to be your choice off of the menu.
My husband went for Rosa’s Red Curry with Beef . The signature red curry laced with bamboo shoots and basil was a winner for him. He is usually a huge Penang Curry fan but decided to try Rosa’s signature dish and tells me he is very glad he did as it is now his new favourite. It is marked with 2 chillies on the menu to show that it is mildly hot and my husband said it was hot but hugely flavoursome with the right balance of heat and flavour.
We had 2 sides of Coconut Rice and Egg Fried Rice to try and these were a good addition to the meals.
We loved everything about Rosa’s Thai, from the fabulous food to the brilliant table service and are happy to have one so close to where we live. We have already discussed when we will next go and highly recommend that you book to go too. We will be visiting with our two girls next time as they have a lovely 2 course menu for £6.50 for the children which they will thoroughly enjoy.
