Essington Farm, Bognop Road, Wolverhampton, WV11 2AZ
This is one of our favourite places to visit to PYO Pumpkins. I’ve been coming here fruit picking since I was a little girl with my grandma, so I love that I get to come back year on year with my own girls. Each year seems to get bigger and better with tractor rides and activities for children. They sometimes have professional pumpkin carving artists in too which are great to watch. They have way more patience than me, pumpkin carving!

It doesn’t matter what the weather is like with Pumpkins R Us as it is indoors and HUGE! I’d never seen so many pumpkins all under one roof and it’s a superb name for the place as it is definitely the pumpkin version of Toys R Us with so many different varieties of pumpkins and gourds.

Top tips for Pumpkin Picking:
1. Dress appropriately: Wear comfortable clothes and footwear that you don’t mind getting dirty. Take a pair of gloves. The stems can be prickly.
2. It is a good idea to bring a black bag to put your pumpkins in, for when you’re transporting them home. Saves you having to clean up a muddy car boot.
3. Look for the right pumpkin: When choosing a pumpkin, make sure it’s ripe by checking for a hard exterior and a sturdy stem. Avoid any pumpkins with soft spots, mould, or blemishes.
4. Know your pumpkin’s purpose: Consider what you’ll be using the pumpkins for. If you are carving them, go for the larger pumpkins with a flat bottom for stability. Smaller pumpkins are great for baking and decorating. Mine sometimes like to paint their pumpkin instead of carving.
5. Explore the patch: Don’t just pick the first pumpkin you see (my girls always try to do this). Take your time to explore the whole patch and compare different options. Look for unique shapes, colours, and sizes to find the perfect pumpkin for you. There’s so many interesting coloured pumpkins now. Last year we saw grey ones!
6. Have fun: Pumpkin picking is an enjoyable activity, so make sure to have fun! Bring your family or friends along and make lots of memories.
7. Check for additional activities: Many pumpkin patches offer additional activities like a maize maze, tractor rides, or arts and crafts tents. Take advantage of these fun extras to make your pumpkin picking experience even more memorable.
8. Take photos and tag us in your pictures.
Happy pumpkin picking!
