⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Captain Hook may steal treasure, but this show steals the spotlight!
This year’s panto, Peter Pan, is packed full of laughs, magic, and that signature Birmingham Hippodrome sparkle that we have come to love.
Alison Hammond shines (as always!) as The Magical Mermaid, bringing her local Brummie charm to the stage for another consecutive year, while Matt Slack had the whole audience in stitches as the hilarious Smee with impersonations that are absolutely spot on. There’s even some nods to current news to ensure a fun collection of cheers and boos. As I write this on Christmas Eve, I can’t help but think these two would make for epic guests around the table on Christmas Day with their abundance of humour and charm.
Danny Mac makes a brilliant (and rather dashing) Captain Hook, Andrew Ryan’s Dame is as fabulous as ever (keep your eyes peeled for the cannon scene that made me giggle lots), Noah Harrison and Rhiannon Chesterman are a delight as Peter and Wendy, Cian Highes as John Darling and not to forget Billie-Kay who brightens up the stage as Tink!
Add in breathtaking effects, stunning costumes, and plenty of “oh yes, it is!” moments, and you’ve got a show that’s pure panto perfection.
It really is the pantomime of all pantomimes in every aspect. A special shout out also to the dancers who were spectacular, especially Elle Taylor! And all the people behind the scenes, from lighting to set design, choreography, and sound designers.
I don’t want to spoil too much by saying what happens. Instead, I’m just going to tell you it’s THE pantomime to book. Be it to end the year on a high or start the year on a high. Peter Pan is spectacular!
