“EGG-CELLENT!” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Tweedy returns for his 12th pantomime at The Everyman Theatre in the lead role of Mother Goose, the Christmas pantomime that will leave the whole family laughing hysterically.
We headed along to the press night last night and were quite frankly wowed! What a show! All four of us voted the show the full 5 stars! Demonstrating just how great the show is for the younger and older audience. Jokes that children will get, but then also adult innuendos and jokes that flew straight over the children’s heads. There’s even current day references that will make you chuckle. We didn’t just smile at the performance, but we laughed out loud, the belly laugh type.
Liam Doyle plays the role of Clarkson, brother to Caleb (Dominic Treacy), sons of Mother Goose. They all live on Piddlyplop Farm in a caravan. The farm is at risk as they can’t afford to pay the bills, and Demon Vanity (Jessica Martin) wants to take the farm and animals for herself. We don’t want to spoil the whole story, but there’s a great deal of laughter, boo’ing and a few moments where you might just put your hand over your mouth in shock, and then laugh. It is thoroughly great.
The cast works brilliantly together, really bouncing off one another. Dominic Treacy was my star of the show with his outstanding performance. He is hilarious, and the girls haven’t stopped laughing and giggling about him since we saw the show last night.
Tweedy is the ultimate panto King. What a performer. Quick-witted, a great actor, and he even has a good singing voice. You can see why he is so loved by audiences year-on-year, and I am so glad we got to see him perform (our first time).
Liam Doyle, who plays Clarkson, has great stage presence and that loveable character that every panto needs and his on stage mini romance with ‘Just Joanne’ (Hollie Jane Stephens) is really cute to watch. I’ve seen Liam perform on stage before in Heather’s The Musical, and it was a delight to see him in this production having a lead role.
Jessica Martin plays the role of Demon Vanity, the panto baddie, keeping all the kids and grown-ups happily boo’ing her. Her performance was really enjoyable, and I’ve got to say, I quite looked forward to her returns on the stage! Should that happen with a baddie? Ha!
Bree Smith was cast brilliantly into the role of the Good Fairy of Gloucestershire. A smile that automatically makes everyone in the room smile. Bree was a delight to watch, and we got to meet her after the show, too, which made my girls so happy.
I can’t leave the review without commenting on the ensemble who were all excellent dancers. But a big shout out to Samara Clarke and Jayd’n Tyrone for the extra bit of umph they gave their performances which had me peeping at the programme to see who they were.
The musicians (Alex Bellamy, Jake Perrett and Jake Taylor) really added to the show.
This is one of those shows where everything worked well and came together to give a five-star performance. Super writer (Samuel Holmes), eggcellent directing (Samuel Holmes and Nick Winston), great design (Ryan Dawson Light), and brilliant casting (Jonathan Russell).
If you’re considering a pantomime this year, I’d highly recommend Mother Goose. It’s cracking!
