Last Saturday (19th October) 2019, we headed to the beautiful Old Rep Theatre in Birmingham to watch Monstersaurus LIVE on the stage. Both girls were incredibly excited and to be honest, after having read the book, it was definitely something us adults were happy to go along to see too. If you haven’t read the book, it is written by the very talented creators of Aliens Love Underpants.
Tickets were very reasonably priced at £13 each (concessions £11) and there were two times to choose from. The 11:30am showing or the 2:30pm showing. We headed along to the 11:30am showing as we had a childrens party to attend on the afternoon.
We arrived early for the usual toilet stops, to get snacks and to choose goodies from the merchandise stand.
The Old Rep do a great offer for £5, where children can have a tub of ice cream, a large bag of haribo and a fruit shoot. Plenty for two children to share together and that’s what mine did.
The merchandise stand was great with a couple of books to choose from, colouring pens and other items. All for various budgets which is great. As a parent when you’re running low on funds, it helps so much when there are merchandise items that are a pocket money price.
We purchased a book and some highlighters (spending less than a tenner) and headed off to find our seats.
Before the show started, two scientists came round to introduce themselves to the audience. And then, the show started.
We got to know Monty, a young boy (still at school) who lives with his stay at home Mum. Monty is an inventor who wants to create a whole world of whacky inventions and incredible monsters.
He spends time in his bedroom concocting experiments, adding a number of ingredients together to see what he can make.
The show was wonderful. Full of audience participation. If you sit on the end of a row, you get asked to look after ingredients which you can then take to the stage to help create a new monster. My girls had a tin of old baked beans which Jemima was so proud to hold on to.
They both loved handing the ingredient in to make a new monster.
The show was full of energy, smiles, happiness, dancing, singing, magic and monsters. Not just for children but a few giggles for adults too. We really enjoyed it and would recommend others to go and see it.
Disclaimer: We were gifted tickets in return for an honest review. We loved the show – thank you. Professional photos of the cast, were provided by The Old Rep Theatre.
