Sensational.
Stepping onto the stage at The Alexandra Theatre Birmingham this week (until Sunday 19th June 2022) are the amazingly talented cast from Michael Flatley’s Lord of the Dance.
This 2 hour show (including interval) will leave you astounded. How do they dance so well for so long? How do they play the violin so fast and perfectly? How do they not make one single mistake. Sensational isn’t strong enough a word for how I felt about the performance this evening.
Celebrating 25 years of standing ovations, it is easy to see how Lord of the Dance is the Worlds most popular and successful touring dance show in entertainment history! It has now been seen by over 60 million people in 60 different countries on every continent. Quite a feat!
The show of dancing is staged around a story of a mythical time and place. A classic tale of good vs evil. Lord of the Dance (Cathal Keaney) must fight against all the evil in the world, showed through the appearance of The Dark Lord and his followers. With more than 150,000 taps per performance, you can imagine just how much dancing takes place and how perfect their routines and footwork was. I have a new found love of Irish dancing. It was sexy, fun and mesmerising.
The visuals created on stage were brilliant. Large screens portraying the best graphics. Changing with each scene. Fire, the Irish sweeping countryside… I was transported to many places and yet, I was sat still. Transfixed to the stage, so much so that I got two sore eyes as I didn’t want to blink and miss a single step (or 5, the speed they go). Even writing this review I just keep stopping, thinking about their footwork. How did they manage each step with such precision.
This high energy show is absolutely wonderful. Perfect for men and women. Boys and Girls.
If you would like to book tickets, Sunday currently has the best availability and tickets are priced from just £13.
