If you’ve not heard of Lil’s Parlour before, you are in for a treat. An 80s and 90s nostalgia inspired bakery in Birmingham, who during the last year has provided amazing bakes via post across the whole of the UK. Now, with a new addition to the store, Lucy the owner (basically a Goddess) is opening Frosty’s Palace and on May 8th we headed along to the press event to check it out.
It might have been raining outside on Saturday but once we entered the door of Lil’s Parlour we felt like the sun was shining. Lil’s Parlour has been transformed to house the most epic retro soft serve ice cream parlour (perfect for both big and little kids) and it opens to the public on 15th May 2021 (opening times and address at the bottom of this post).
When you are inside, you feel like you have been transported to the 1980s, possibly on Weston Super-Mare’s Pier in a quirky shop. It is brilliant. A poster of Mr Blobby, brightly coloured art work pieces, old school toys including Garfield, My Little Pony, Rainbow, Care Bears and lots more.
My girls were immediately in love with the Chicken Egg Machine (remember to bring your 20p’s if you would like to use the machine). Lucy was on BBC Midlands Today earlier this year talking about her purchase of the machine which had been in a popular UK holiday resort from around 1969. It really adds to the whole retro seaside feel. There’s even a seagull in the store – not a real one obviously.
The Soft Serve Ice Cream machine is a perfect addition for this Birmingham based business that just seems to go (very deservingly) from strength to strength. One single flavour can be produced by the machine but over 40 plus toppings and exciting twists to the ice cream, ensures you can create a wealth of combinations.
Soft Serve ice cream is similar to ice cream but smoother and less dense and I have to admit, I may actually prefer it to normal ice cream. At least the one made by Frosty’s Palace. Yum.
Hubby was first to choose his order, he went for a traditional coke float which he said was brilliant. Coca-Cola, Soft serve ice cream, sauce and a cherry on the top all for £3.30. A real bargain for the size and quality of it. The menu has a further 2 different Float options, next time I go I am determined to try the Blue Lagoon Float (pineapple juice and bubblegum sauce) and they also have a traditional Cream Soda Float. Which one do you think you would like?
Jemima was next, choosing a bear shaped cone ice cream for £1.80 which comes with one sauce – Jemima chose Unicorn sauce and asked for an extra topping from the toppings counter. They are 40p each. Jemima had the bubblegum fizzy bottles.
Matilda had her eyes firmly on the rainbow coloured waffle cone which she had with blue sugar, sprinkles and a homemade chocolate by Lucy.
I couldn’t decide what to choose after looking at the incredibly tempting menu so asked Lucy to decide. Lucy made me a Sundae and I could not have been happier. It was amazing. Sundae’s are £5.00 with any 4 toppings and a sauce. I went for the biscoff sauce, biscoff crumb, bubblegum bottles, fizzy striped laces and marshmallows. It was amazing. I loved it. It’s good to mention here too that ALL of the toppings on the counter (other than the marshmallows) are all vegetarian.
You can see the full menu here to get your taste buds tingling!
All the sauce flavours sound amazing, with Lil’s Parlours delicious cakes and churros on the menu to make you drool too, it’s everyone’s version of heaven. At least it is mine. Lil’s Parlour has got this venture 100% right and every one in and around Birmingham really must visit.
