Jemima was very excited about attending todays class. She loves music and dancing and kept asking me in the car if we would be singing.
When we got into the building, Jemima found the Jo Jingles sign and went to give it a kiss. A good sign that she would probably like this session, straight away. We said hello to the people on the reception desk who were very friendly and headed up to the room. Jemima had a good nosey through the glass to see where she was about to go.
When we got into the class we met Sally who is the franchise owner of the Lichfield and Tamworth groups and Emily who was running todays session at The Friary Grange Leisure Centre. Both ladies were lovely and very welcoming.
Jemima was encouraged to find a spot to sit on, ready for the session to begin. Jemima chose a red one (no surprise there with it being her favourite colour). The spots were circular carpets of different textures which I thought was lovely. Jemima immediately took her shoes off and seemed to enjoy pushing her feet down onto the different spots around her.
The session started with a Jo Jingles hello song which I’m told is sung at the start of every session. Repetition is great for children as it helps them to learn quicker and sing along a bit more each week. The group had some regulars as at least half of the children knew the words. Having regulars always signifies a great class to me. Jemima enjoyed waving and singing some of the lines towards the end of the song.
The session lasted a total of 45 minutes, which I think is a great amount of time to keep childrens attention for.
It included various activities (in no particular order) ;
Fluttering like a butterfly, hide and seek and identifying colours;
The children had to dance around the room with the ribbons, acting like butterflies fluttering around.
They also played hide and seek (Jemimas favourite game). Jemima enjoyed standing right at the front for this.
And whilst sat on their spots, they had to find the correct coloured ribbon when Emily called it out. Jemima really enjoyed this and I thought it was yet another great fun way to teach children colours.
Passing a bag around to pick out the next nursery rhyme to sing;
Jemima was a little cheeky in this game. She was so eager to be picked to put her hand in and choose the nursery rhyme, that she held onto the bag for much longer than she was meant to.
It was a great activity to develop and build on social skills and was lovely to see that Jemima wasn’t the only one enjoying the session. The room was full of very happy children.
Playing a percussion instrument – the triangle;
This may have been Jemimas favourite part. She loves being able to be expressive and make a noise and this was perfect as she got to do both.
She ran to get her Triangle all excitedly.
And stood playing her triangle as best she could, to Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and other tunes.
She was so happy to be holding the triangle and playing a tune. That she did a couple of little dances. Dancing can help improve motor skills and develop balance and coordination which is perfect for Jemima.
Sleeping Bunnies;
Toward the end of the session they had a sleeping bunny section where all the children had to run to get a bunny (Jemima took two) and then the sleeping bunnies song was played. Jemima loves jumping up and down in this song and pretending to be asleep and I could hear her shouting ‘hop hop hop’, joining in.
There were so many other sections, but I wouldn’t want to put them all on here as I want you to go and experience a class for yourselves. I’m pretty positive your little one will really enjoy it and after your second session you will be registering for the rest of the term.
Here’s a collection of some of the other pictures from the class, to give you a feel of what to expect. This group has some lovely mums in it that make you feel really welcome. Even making me feel welcome, with my big intimidating camera. So thank you fellow mummies, you really helped me feel at home too;
Emily was great at running the session; so relaxed and great at interacting with the children. They all seemed at ease with her and her ability to hold a note and tune whilst moving around the room, were impressive.
I’ll definitely be going back to these sessions with Jemima. And I really hope that you will take up this chance of two free sessions for you and your little one, to see how wonderful they are.
