UnBEANlievable. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Are you heading to see this year’s Brum Hippodrome panto?
Matt Slack is back for his tenth pantomime performance at Birmingham Hippodrome and this time the production is Jack and the Beanstalk.
The staging, set design, and production value is quite frankly unBEANlievable and almost had me giving the show a full 5 stars. Flames on the edge of the stage, that you could feel the heat of – even up in the circle seats, a ginormous beanstalk leading to the roof, a huge animatronic giant and all the glitz, glamour and sparkles that you would expect from a Christmas production.
Regular Brum Hippodrome faces, including Doreen Tipton as a cow and Andrew Ryan as Dame Trot took to the stage and also TV favourite Samantha Womack (playing Mrs Blunderbore) and everyone’s favourite Brummie Alison Hammond as The Spirit of the Beans.
Alexanda O’Reilly took the role of Jack alongside Billie-Kay as Princess Jill.
The whole cast created a fun Christmas panto with songs, dancing, and giggles. Matt Slack gave us plenty of raunchy adult innuendos that flew straight over my ten year olds head and was back with more great impersonations and song excerpts. He really does make this show every year.
You might wonder why it’s not the 5 stars that we gave the pantomime last year, and it’s because the story didn’t quite flow as well as last year (for me). But let’s be honest, we aren’t really at the panto for the story, are we? It’s for Matt Slacks tremendous comedy, the superb WOW inducing staging, and the catchy songs and acts.
It’s a must-see. Birmingham Hippodrome knows how to do the most amazing pantomimes, and I, for one, will be back, year on year.
Jack and the Beanstalk is at Birmingham Hippodrome until 28 Jan 2024. Book your tickets here: https://www.birminghamhippodrome.com/calendar/jack-and-the-beanstalk/
