Itaewon

Posted on 05/07/202205/07/2022

A brand new Korean Fried Chicken restaurant and bar opens in Birmingham this Friday, the 8th July 2022 and we had a sneak peek today.

Located in Birmingham City Centre next door to The Old Rep Birmingham and The Electric Cinema, you could combine your visit with a film or a show. It is also conveniently located next to New Street Station, waiting for your train has never been so good!

Itaewon in South Korea is well-known as a place where people from all countries and walks of life, come together for a good time and the new Restaurant of the same name is eager to recreate something similar. From the food and drink available, to the staff within the restaurant. It is a perfect name. A place for everyone to meet and have a fabulous time.

We met Betty today, the restaurant manager who was an absolute delight to be served by with an array of great ideas for the restaurant in the future including weekly specials to entice people in. I’m excited as after visiting today, I know I am going to be a regular.

We went for the brunch menu and I chose the Korean Fried Chicken Eggs Benedict which was sublime. The most perfect brunch choice. A huge portion of the tastiest ingredients and the cheapest price. Betty tells us the price is a big thing for them, they want everyone to be able to afford to eat with them. At £7.50 for the huge portion I had (that left me so full I couldn’t fit a pudding in, which is so unlike me), I was in amazement.

The Korean Fried Chicken Eggs Benedict includes lots of crispy chicken strips marinated with a signature blend of herbs and spices in a crunchy shell (not spicy spices I should add), served with crispy bacon, 2 poached eggs, Asian slaw and freshly made hollandaise sauce all onto of the tastiest, fluffiest milk toast.

My husband went for the Fried Chicken Strips and Croffle for £8. Oh my. So good. You get loads of really tasty chicken and the croffle was delightful. Served with garlic butter and honey sauce toasted sesame.

And a side of chips (£3) because, well, we are greedy. The chips were chunky and very tasty. And I recommend everyone orders a portion on the side.

The brunch menu had so many great different options to choose from. The Korean Sweet Chilli Fried Chicken Burger with the charcoal bun sounded exciting. Betty told us how the charcoal bun has health benefits.

But next time I go for brunch I am choosing the French Toast without a shadow of a doubt. Caramelised plums, frangipane and pain au chocolate croutons with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, fresh berries, maple syrup and almond flakes. Oh yes! Sound good doesn’t it.

The drinks were great too. A huge variety to choose from. Great for alcohol drinkers and soft drink fans. I tried the Melon Soda and the Watermelon Soda and absolutely loved them. My husband went for the two none alcoholic cocktails on the menu and loved them. They were summery, fruity and so pretty.

I am in love with this restaurant and bar and cannot wait to visit again both for brunch and for a main meal on an evening.

Go and give them a follow over on Instagram HERE and book your table ready for the grand opening this Friday. Any bookings today mean you get your first round of drinks for free.
