A brand New Multi-Sensory, hyper reality experience In A Box In A Box In A Box has landed in Digbeth and opens officially on 6th October 2021.
We were kindly invited along to test out Chernobyl Hidden Depths before it opens to the public and it was EXPLOSIVE! Excuse the pun.
Before beginning the Virtual Reality experience we sat and enjoyed some time in The Portal talking to the very friendly and knowledgeable Jenna (Venue Manager).
The Portal is a bar which oozes urban decay. It is dark and eerie and really gets you ready for the Chernobyl feel that you will experience once you have your headsets on.
The Portal is open not just for guests of the VR experience but to the public as well. So you could just pop in and grab a drink at any point.
Brewdog are providing Hazy Jane, Punk IPA and Elvis Juice on tap. You can also get a Dig Brew 23-19 on tap, which is a sour ale (raspberry, himalayan salt and vanilla).
Cocktails are aplenty in the bar too and with them costing only £7/£7.50 each or 2 for £12 before 7pm, it is a brilliant place to visit for drinks even if you’re not going to do the VR 4D experience.
After enjoying some pre-game drinks (tea and apple juice), we headed off with Max our friendly games host to get our backpack and headsets on, ready to start our mission. Max can’t be seen by us when we have our headsets on but is with us for the whole journey to make sure we remain safe and don’t walk into each other or a wall.
Once equipped with the most amazing VR equipment we were ready to go into the first room to watch a briefing and commence our journey. I don’t want to spoil your experience by revealing what happens other than you being in a lab 300 meters underneath Chernobyl (it is the not knowing what to expect that adds further to the visit) but what I will say is that all of your senses are going to be pushed to the ultimate extreme. Think sound, smell, touch and movement.
Will you make it out of Chernobyl? Will you be able to crack the puzzles in a virtual reality type escape room? Will you make it to the end? And if you do, how long will it take you?
We absolutely loved it. It was such a mind blowing experience. Kevin Blair the MD certainly has created an out-of-this-world experience that I am positive is going to be VERY popular, especially being the first in the UK. I have no idea how someone manages to create something so brilliant. It has seriously amazed me today and I know that you will feel the same too.
When out of the experience, you can sit down to enjoy a drink whilst bringing yourself back to reality in the portal bar. A perfect end to an epic multi sensory experience
It gets a huge thumbs up from us and we cannot wait to come back in the future. Thank you.
This is an adult experience and not currently appropriate for those under 16 years of age.
If you are an emergency or Tri Services worker, you can get a 30% off discount.
