“A colourful, fun and catchy production” – Small House Big Trips
Hey Duggee Live, the much loved (by children and parents alike) TV show, graced the stage of Coventry Belgrade Theatre yesterday, where it is staying until Sunday 6th August. It is a dazzling, colourful, fun and catchy production that left many in the audience mesmerised – from babies, to grown adults. My two absolutely loved it. Matilda laughed through most of it and Jemima sat mesmerised, only moving and making noise when the audience were encouraged to sing along, dance or to stick on their badges.
It was wonderful to see the much-loved characters come to life and I’m still unsure how they managed to get the voices to sound exactly like the TV show.
To keep all of the young ones entertained, they have cleverly made this production an interactive experience right from the start (as children entered the theatre, they were handed a sheet of paper filled with stickers). During the show, when the badges were achieved on the stage, the audience could reward themselves with a sticker, too.
The talented cast embodied the colourful characters of Hey Duggee flawlessly. Capturing the unique personalities and quirks of Duggee, Happy, Tag, Roly, Norrie, and Betty. From Duggee’s gentle and wise demeanour to Happy’s infectious enthusiasm (you couldn’t help but smile when he was on the stage).
The plot was easy to follow, ensuring the young ones in the audience remained engaged throughout the performance. I saw children singing, dancing, and staring in awe at the lights and clever stage creations. The stage design was simple but perfect. From the iconic clubhouse to the space scene with lights filling the whole theatre. The magic of the TV show was captured through and through.
If you have a young child that you would love to introduce to the world of theatre but have been worried that they won’t sit still or stay quiet, this is the show for you. It is relaxed, inclusive, and perfect for everyone. The production company knows that children are children and they encourage audience participation, be it with wiggling bodies dancing or children being vocal.
Be sure to pop to the merchandise stand where you could purchase a box with a squishy stick toy, a magazine and stickers for £15. Or one of the many other gifts.
The café also had a Hey Duggee inspired children’s lunch choice, too!
