“⭐⭐⭐⭐ An ebullient musical that gets you wanting to sing along and dance in your seat”.
After a whirlwind summer holiday romance, Danny and Sandy are reunited when she moves to Rydell High for her senior year, making friends with the Pink Ladies. Will they rekindle their love and survive the trials and tribulations of being teenagers?
“You’re the one that I want, you are the one I want, ooh ooh ooh”
Is there anyone who doesn’t know the words to all the main songs? I don’t think so. Grease is a true classic. And who better to have play the role of Vince Fontaine, than classic 90s singer and heart throb, Peter Andre. The only disappointing part for me is that he wasn’t given the role of Danny Zuko and that’s mostly because it shows that I’m getting old now.
So what did we at Small House Big Trips think of the show?
If you are expecting to come along and see Sandy Dumbrowki as the sweet girl that you saw in the Grease film, you need to prepare yourself. Sandy is not sweet in this. Sandy is, somewhat ‘sandy’… gritty and abrasive. Possibly over confident. Although this is not a negative, as Ellie Kingdon who played the role of Sandy last night played the role perfectly, with incredible vocals which really came to light during her performance of Hopelessly Devoted to You.
Danny Zuko (Dan Partridge) fills the stage with confidence, as part of the Burger Place Boys, he has gained some good friends and the relationship on stage with the burger boys is great. Act One sees them singing classic Greased Lightning together and you really feel the fun and passion from them on stage.
Rizzo (Tendai Rinomhota) is the stand out character from the show. Whose presence on the stage captivates you completely, almost on a par with Frenchy (Marianna Neofitou) who imitated the role of Frenchy completely.
The choreography was fun, energetic and really made the show the feel good musical that everyone loves. Arlene Philips and Richard Roe have done a tremendous job.
Grease is at The Alexandra Theatre, Birmingham until Saturday 6th November 2021.
