You know those meals where everything just feels right? Where you leave not only full in the tummy but full in the heart too? That was this.
We visited a beautiful, family-run French–Pan European fine dining restaurant tucked away in Warwickshire, and it was such a winner. From the moment we stepped outside Café Vin Cinq, it felt like we were in what I would imagine a romantic little Parisian street would be like. Think elegant interiors, warm lighting (fairy lights draped up the picturesque stairs), and that kind of relaxed atmosphere that makes you want to settle in and stay all evening.
The welcome:
Every table is greeted with freshly baked warm bread with a balsamic glaze – simple, thoughtful, and such a lovely way to start. It’s the kind of bread that makes you pause and go “oh wow” after the first bite. Fresh, soft, warm, perfect.

Starters:
I went for the Mushroom and Truffle Ravioloni (v) – served in a creamy white wine sauce with parmesan. And I don’t say this lightly… it was phenomenal. I scraped up every last bit of that sauce. Rich, earthy, and so comforting.

My friend Lucy had the Camembert au Miel Lavande (v) – baked camembert topped with lavender honey, served with black cherry chutney and a freshly baked baguette. A perfect balance of sweet, savoury, and creamy – so good for sharing, too (if you’re willing to share).
Mains:
I chose the Pan-Seared Duck Breast with a glossy blackberry reduction, roasted baby beets and a fresh shaved fennel salad. The duck was perfectly cooked – crisp on the outside, tender in the middle. And the beets made such a beautiful pairing.

I also couldn’t resist a side of honey roasted carrots with orange zest and pistachio crumble, and I’m so glad I didn’t. Sweet, crunchy, citrusy, I’d go back just for that side alone.

Lucy had the Pan-Seared Lamb Rump with pickled cucumber, pea purée, dauphinoise potatoes, and mint oil. She loved the contrast of the pickled cucumber with the richness of the lamb – it really worked.

Dessert (because of course):
We were so full but couldn’t leave without pudding. I had an orange and passionfruit cheesecake that I’m genuinely still thinking about. Creamy, zesty, light – easily one of the best cheesecakes I’ve ever had.

Lucy went for three scoops of sorbet (2 x passionfruit, 1 x raspberry), and it was the perfect fresh finish. They also had the option of a champagne sorbet, which sounded great.

The verdict:
It was one of those evenings that just felt special – not only because of the food, but the whole experience. Family-owned and run (chef to floor staff), multi-award-winning, and the kind of place that feels both refined and welcoming.

Whether you’re planning a date night, celebrating something special, or just fancy treating yourself to really good food – this place is 100% worth booking.
It’s smallhousebigtrips approved 💛
