“⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Energetic, fun and a little bit naughty” is the best way to describe this production of Footloose which is currently at The Alexandra Theatre until Saturday 23rd April 2022.
With tickets from as little as £13 (Dress Circle Seats where you still get a brilliant view), you could have a brilliant evening tonight as they have a number of tickets still available in the Dress Circle.
Footloose tells the story of City boy Ren (Joshua Hawkins) who moves to Bomont with his mum , where the boy who can never stand still, finds dancing and rock music are against the law after a heart-breaking accident 5 years earlier saw the Rev. Shaw Moore (Darren Day) lose his son. Ren see’s that the town needs to dance and have fun again, so takes matters into his own hands… it isn’t long before he has the town dancing once more.
The first 20 minutes of the show starts slow and lays the story down. I have to admit, I was thinking I’d be giving a three star award during this section of the show but this all changed after local Brummie Lucy Munden who plays Ariel Moore, the reverends daughter, gave us the most insane and superb vocals to Holding Out For A Hero. In the words of 80s Yazz, from this point, the only was was up! And scene after scene got better and better. Lucy Munden was the star of the show for me. Her vocals were tremendous, her stage presence superb. When Lucy was on stage, all eyes were on Lucy.
Jake Quickenden who plays the role of Willard Hewitt had every female (and some males) in the audience falling in love with him. Fun, quirky and bringing the ‘naughty’ to the show. You couldn’t help but smile when he was performing his parts.
Darren Day played the role of Rev. Shaw Moore, husband to Vi Moore (Holly Ashton) and father to Ariel Moore (Lucy Munden) really well. It was a pleasure to see him perform on the stage and so nice to see him look so happy during the encore. A distinguished actor who continues to give 100% in every theatre role he performs.
Joshua Hawkins who played the lead role (Ren McCormack) was phenomenal. His spirit, energy, acting and singing. This is a person who has it all.
Another shout out needs to be given to Oonagh Cox who performed the role of Rusty. Her performance of Let’s Hear it For The Boy was splendid.
The energy, choreography and team spirit was in abundance on the stage. Matt Cole has created some great up-beat dance moves that had the whole audience impressed. The music, lighting and sound were sublime and it was a true testament to everyone involved, both Creatives, Production Team and all the talented Cast, that everyone was stood up on their feet in appreciation at the end.
A glorious show that everyone will enjoy.
