I was scrolling through my Instagram account this week and saw someone post that they had been to Farmer Ted’s Dairy with their son and got some fresh milk.
With my two girls having such a love of milk, the idea of them being able to pour their own fresh non-homogenised and gently pasteurised milk sounded fantastic.
So this morning we headed to Obelisk Farm (aka Farmer Ted’s Dairy) to get some of this milk from the very well looked after Montbeliarde cows.
We pulled up at the farm, turned left to find the parking and the girls jumped out of the car excited to see the cows.
We went to have a look at them, the girls waved and talked to them and we commented on how healthy they looked.
We then popped to have a look at the ducks and chickens, you can buy fresh duck and chicken eggs from the farm too. We didn’t get any this time but we will be back to try them (£2 for a box of 6).
Jemima found the self serve shed and we headed inside.
In the shed you can pick between plastic cartons (1 or 2 litre) or you can purchase Farmer Ted’s personalised 1 ltr glass bottles for £2 from the vending machine. This is what we did, purchasing one each for the girls.
There’s a fresh milk machine that you then put your money in (coins or notes, it was £1.50 for a ltr bottle), you tell the machine which size bottle you have and you pour the milk in.
The girls loved being able to see the milk being filled into the bottles and were proud to have one each.
We tried the milk when we got home and it was definitely a more flavoursome and smooth milk. I’m looking forward to trying a nice hot chocolate using the milk later this evening.
Is this a day out? No.
Is it a quirky and fun way to get your fresh (very tasty) milk and eggs? And see where they have come from? Then yes.
We really enjoyed our 20-30 minutes here.
If you head along, don’t forget to leave a comment in the visitors book.
