Bringing on Back the Good Times! And they did indeed do that and you can head along to The Alexandra Theatre, Birmingham until Saturday 26th March 2022 to join in with this fabulous show.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ In typical 60’s slang, this show is ‘Groovy’.
The audience were treated to hit after hit this evening. From all the classics of the 50s and 60s from You Don’t Own me, Save The Last Dance For Me and the most epic rendition of Blue Moon by Ray (David Luke) that gave me goose bumps and had the audience mesmerised.
Along with an abundance of talent in the vocal department we were treated to a wealth of jokes and humour that had lots of the audience in the stalls in fits of giggles.
Dreamboats & Petticoats tells the story of Laura (Elizabeth Carter) and Bobby (David Ribi) a loved up couple who are separated whilst Bobby heads to Butlins Bognor Regis with his band, Norman & The Conquests and Laura is sent off to work at Torquay Palace as a singer, managed by self-satisfied Larry (Mark Wynter). We get to see the loved up pair pine for each other over the telephone singing “Baby, Now That I’ve Found You” and demonstrate their tremendous vocal ranges, great choreography and the ability to portray a real sense of chemistry on the stage with every song that they performed. I don’t think anyone will have left the theatre this evening, not in love with this very talented couple.
A special shout out needs to be given to Carole Todd who has created a marvellous set of dance moves as choreographer. My favourite being when Donna (Samara Clarke) performed Shirley Ellis’ The Clapping Song as her audition to be a Fitness Instructor at Butlins. Not a single incorrect move from any of the performers on the stage. It was fast, lively and fun and I almost wanted to join in. I would have loved to see this dance routine created. It was brilliant.
Norman (Alastair Hill) was another stand out cast member with his strong vocals, distinguished dance moves and suave persona. He has the audience laughing with his quick wit – especially as the Bingo Caller. David Benson as Kenneth Williams may have stole the show with his performance that had everyone laughing.
This was a fabulous musical performed by some of the most talented people. I hope they know just how good they are.
