⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “Purr-fect”
Dick Whittington: The Pantomime Paved with Gold is playing at Birmingham Hippodrome until Sun 29th Jan 2023, featuring the legendary Matt Slack who not only co-writes the show with Alan McHugh but plays the lead character this year. I have never seen such a perfect Dick Whittington. The jokes, impersonations, amazing one-liners, and the ability to remember all his words, had me and the rest of the audience in the palm of his hand. It was absolutely brilliant. Bigger and better than ever before!
The performance also included every parents favourite, Dr Ranj, who brings a perfect amount of magic and sparkle to the show as The Spirit of the Bells and really came into his own in the role. He was funny, endearing, and owned the stage when on it.
Marti Pellow played the role of baddie, The Ratman and although we had the boo’s, it was obvious to see how much Marti Pellow was adored.
Doreen Tipton continues to provide local talent with an all familiar accent in her role as Doreen The Cat. Her vocals when singing were brilliant – I never knew Doreen had a set of lungs on her like that!
Hearsay singer Suzanne Shaw was a cheery delight on the stage in her role of Alice Fitzwarren.
Andrew Ryan kept us all laughing in his role as Felicity Fitzwarren. Andrew really is great in the Birmingham Pantomimes and it is wonderful to see him getting more and more confident, each year. A real delight.
The whole performance was Purr-fect!
I came home last week with face ache as I laughed and smiled so much. Which is a real testament to how good this show is.
You all know the Dick Whittington story, well, this is completely different and I really don’t want to spoil it for you.
The show sets and costumes are direct from The London Palladium and are quite frankly amazing. Some real jaw-dropping scenes that could rival some of Disneys theatre shows with the special lighting and sound effects.
Lots of impersonations, dancing, singing, magic, a huge amount of comedy, and a real high to end the year on. There’s even sparks that fly!
We at Small House Big Trips highly recommend this show. It is one, not to be missed.
