“Sexy, savage and so much fun” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
You enter the theatre to the sound of 90s classics playing, people bopping along, reminiscing about being younger, enjoying those songs. Remembering every single lyric from all those years ago, even though you can just about remember what you ate last night. Why does that happen?
Cruel Intentions the 90s Musical is the perfect night to grab your mates and hit the dancefloor… theatre. Filled to the brim of 90s classics including R.E.M, The Verve, Britney Spears, No Doubt and lots more. You’ll be lip-syncing like theirs no tomorrow and playing the soundtrack full blast in your car on the way home.

This musical is an adaptation of the 1999 cult film (of the same name) and you can expect the seduction and humour found within the film, with comedic choices of 90s songs fitted in (in most cases) perfectly. It isn’t a jukebox show where the songs are crammed in with no rhyme or reason, this has been careful thought out and many times the audience erupted in laughter (possibly a jaw-dropping shock at one point, but I don’t want to spoil it for you). It’s the music that really makes this show and it’s great to see new life in some of the tracks with thanks to some great re-imagining from Musical Director Will Joy and Orchestrations from Zach Spound with the live band. Keyboard, guitars, bass, and drums. The 90s are back, and they sound SO good.

The production stays true to the film and focuses on step-siblings Sebastian Valmont (Will Callan) and Kathryn Merteuil (Nic Myers) as they scheme and manipulate, concocting plans to hurt people that they know, including trying to seduce the virtuous Annette Hargrove (Abbie Budden). We meet characters including Cecile Caldwell (Lucy Carter), Ronald Clifford (Kevin Yates), Blaine Tuttle (Luke Conner Hall), Greg McConnell (Joe Simmons), Dr Greenbaum/Mrs Bunny Caldwell (Gabriella Williams) and Court Reynolds (Ben Fenwick) who all, along with the ensemble cast bring life, energy and passion into their performances.

You can see Cruel Intentions The Musical at Birmingham Hippodrome until Saturday 7th June. But you’ll have to be quick to get tickets, it’s a POPular one.
