It is one of our yearly traditions as a family to head to the flower fields in Wick, Pershore, so when we heard the event was going to be ticketed, we couldn’t help but keep refreshing the page ready to get our tickets.
Wick for us is a 50 minute drive, so we got up this morning nice and early, chose our clothes last night in preparation (everyone does this don’t they?) and jumped into the car at 9am ready for the 10am ticket entry.
Adults and children are priced at £5 each and children 5 and under are FREE. Such a bargain. All the tickets have not yet sold out, so do check online here if you would like to go. More details about dates are available on the website too.
What are the key changes we noticed this year?
The flower field was replanted to bloom later in the year than usual, so the flowers do not look the same as previous years. The delphiniums are not as tall, so be prepared for that. But the lack of size does not take the beauty of them away. They are such stunning and pretty flowers.
To make up for the delphiniums being shorter, lots of cornflowers and native wildflowers have been planted which gives a pretty wildflower field for your photos. If you’re a big fan of nature, this field attracts bees, butterflies, and pollinating insects which is nice.
There’s also a great area full of a spectacular sea of sunflowers. So pretty.
As I mentioned before, you have to pre-book your tickets in advance, so that the flower field can manage the number of visitors in order to help everyone follow social distancing guidance. They also ask that people be kind, patient and calm with staff and visitors to ensure that everyone stays safe. We found that most people kept to social distancing and it was easy enough to move away in the fields if people came too close.
Pre-booking your tickets means that you won’t be quite sure if the sun is going to shine. The field will only close in the case of extreme weather and if this should happen tickets booked for that day will be refunded in full.
Important to note that you cannot buy tickets on the day. They will be on sale until 6am the day before the entry day. (For example, tickets for entry on Tuesday 11th August will be withdrawn from sale at 6am on Monday 10th August.)
The cafe is open for takeaway only but still offering the usual array of food and drink to takeaway. Jemima chose a strawberry icecream £2, Matilda had a cup of blackcurrent squash for 50p, I had a bottle of water for £1 and Mr Trips had a bottle of fizzy presse which I think was £2. They had cakes available too and hot drinks. Although it was super hot and sunny today so most people seemed after ice creams.
Lots of hay bales were placed around the fields for people to sit on. Either to have photos taken or places to sit for a picnic (or just to rest tired feet) . There was a shaded tent too for those eager to hide from the sun.
So what did we think this year?
We LOVED it. For us it felt the same as normal, but with a more organised system in regards to the cafe and shop with one way systems and perspex screens to keep you away from the staff. The flowers were not as tall but they were just as beautiful and at only £5 each to get in, it is definitely worth the visit.
We even purchased some sunflowers. £3 each or 4 for £10. I obviously went for the 4. Unsure if I have a vase strong enough to hold them though. Ha!
The girls loved running up and down the flower aisles and watching the butterflies flying around.
And we loved that we could get some nice family photos together and enjoy an outdoors activity.
Hi
Is this farm open for family visits? And if so, what are the opening times please.
Thank you
Sarah
