If you like good quality food and large portions that leave you nicely full, questioning if you can fit in a dessert, then this is the place for you.
On Thursday evening we headed to Cock ‘n’ Bull, Mere Green, to check out the Christmas menu that will soon be gracing this fab venue. It is worth noting that if you book a table for 6 or more people for Christmas before the end of October, you get a FREE bottle of Prosecco for every 6 people. Making the already, well priced Christmas Menu and trip out even cheaper.
From the outside, the venue looks cosy. I didn’t expect to walk in and find it stretching so far back and having a mezzanine area up top, over looking the bar and restaurant below.
The decor is modern/street with reclaimed pallets, graffiti and quirky extras.
With booths downstairs that have mega drives, tables full of board games (upstairs and downstairs) and quirky nights full of fun planned, this is a venue where you will never be bored. There is even a member of staff who is a magician – you don’t get that in many venues.
The drinks menu is large and varied, perfect for any taste buds.
Freak Shakes from £6.50 (they sounded immense), House Shakes £3.90 (including strawberry, peanut butter and butterscotch to name a few), Go in Hard Shakes £6.50 including a Peanut Butter and Bourbon one. Mocktails £4, soft drinks (I had two cokes). Monday to Friday soft drinks are unlimited between the hours of 9am and 5pm.
White, red and rose wine bottles from £17.50, Beers and Ciders (Hubby had a delicious House lager), Prosecco Fizz (£6.50) which included prosecco with a variety of different options. My favourite sounding one was the Stardust, Amaretto and Strawberry Puree with prosecco – yum! Various cocktails from old classics including Margarita, Mojito and Cosmopolitan from £6.90 to New School Cocktails including Zombie (£7.90) which my husband had, which contained a blend og dark, light and spiced rums, passionfruit, pineapple juice, lime and tikifire.
He also tried a Kentucky Sweet Tea £7.50 (and he was in love). A bourbon, apple juice, tea infused syrup, ginger beer and lime.
I liked the sound of the Bubble Gum Daiquiri £7.50 (Rum, lime, bubblegum syrup with rainbow sherbet) , but I was driving.
The drinks are vast and varied, which mirrors the extensive main food menu too.
But we were at the venue to talk about and try the Christmas menu, so that is what we will do.
For starters we tried the Sleigh Fulla’ Fun, a selection of favourites for groups of 6 people or more dining. It is £15 a person and very good value.
It included; Buttermilk fried chick’n// cherry cola brisket bites// halloumi fries// homemade nachos// pigs in blankets// slaw// mango, watermelon and chilli salad and bottomless fries.
Tasty, delicious and filling.
They were all a perfect combination.
For mains they have two burgers to choose from (note that they do have a vegan menu but we were not reviewing or eating off of that one).
The Santa Special burger for £12 which was the biggest burger I think I have ever seen.
Full of beef patties// fresh crunchy watercress// 10 hour slow cooked beef brisket // roasted red onion// maple glazed carrots// proper yorkies// roast potatoes// pigs in blankets// beef gravy and cubed fried potatoes.
It was large, it was in one word ‘immense’. This is a burger that cannot be eaten with just hands and instead requires a knife and fork (if you can eat it without a knife and fork, I will be impressed).
My favourite burger though was the Jingle Those Bells burger for £11.
Buttermilk fried chick’n’// melted Brie// chipolata // lettuce and mayo// cranberry sauce and fries.
It was absolutely delicious. So I could review both burgers, me and my husband shared our burgers, but I really didn’t want to give any of this one up. It was succulent, tasty and all of the flavours worked so very well.
Desserts are only £3.50 each when ordering off of the Christmas menu and there’s a number of delightful choices. Check them out on the main menu.
Overall we had an absolutely amazing meal, went home very full and already planning our next return.
Cock ‘n’ Bull you are a fantastic addition to Mere Green and we wish you all the best in your expanding business.
