Show: Bing at the Cinema
Venue: Vue Cinema @vue , Star City, Birmingham
On Saturday, me and the girls were having a girly day out together whilst my husband met up with some friends. We started the day at Track Stars and were following it up with a trip to watch one of the girls favourite shows, Bing at the cinema. We arrived at 12:20 for our 12:45pm showing.
I got our tickets (1 adult and 2 children) and whilst waiting in the queue, the girls asked for combo boxes. I got them one each to avoid any arguing over sharing in the cinema (learning from previous mistakes).
The combo box includes a small popcorn, a small bag of sweets and a drink (the girls had a tango slush). The sign said they were £3.99 each but the lady serving me said they had since gone up and were now £4.29 each. I asked for the 42g bag of Haribo to be placed in each box (as advertised on the sign) but was given a smaller 10p bag and told that’s all they’ve ever had, not the bigger bag mentioned on the sign. I swapped the sweets for a bag of jelly tots instead (also included in the combo deal). The bill came to £22 which I thought was incredibly expensive. Especially seeing as the show is only 60 minutes long.
After paying for our things, we headed to the ticket man and asked about our free Bing ears (as advertised online) and were told we should have been given them at the ticket desk. He kindly popped over and grabbed two for me.
We went and sat down on our seats and were happy with the comfy and clean cinema screen.
The adverts started at 12:40 and I have to admit that they were loud and not appropriate for a young childrens cinema screening. Young children are not interested in the dolby sound and how loud it can get. And it actually scared my 5 year old who held her head and told me that it was too loud and hurting her. This continued (including film previews) for twenty minutes and finally at 1:05pm Bing eventually started.
Bing was great and the girls loved watching it. There were no new shows, instead it was a collection of some Bing favourites, with sections between the episodes for kids to get involved with. I spy game, matching pairs and also how to make a carroty bagel.
Overall, the girls really loved the show and were so happy that they had been able to come and watch it at the cinema with the whole popcorn and large screen effect. But as a parent I believe £22 was too expensive for a 60 minute show and as a huge fan of The Light Cinema in Walsall where we go to watch films usually, I don’t think I will be coming back to Vue to watch a film again.
