Belvoir Castle

A Magical Day Out at Belvoir Castle’s ‘Summer at Sea’ Adventure!

Looking for a fun-filled day out that’s perfect for kids and packed with adventure? We’ve found the ultimate summer destination – Belvoir Castle and this summer they have “Belvoir-at-Sea”, a playground trail.

Running now through 31st August, the seaside-themed playground trail takes little explorers (under 12s) on a quest to uncover enchanted treasures lost to the tides.

Armed with activity sheets, our kids dove right into the fun, following clues through the incredible ship-shaped adventure playground, around the Belvoir Retail Village, and eventually earning a well-deserved prize from the delightful Belvoir Butcher & Farm Shop – and yes, we couldn’t resist buying some treats whilst in there. The quality and range are fantastic.

Along the way, we spotted mermaids, jellyfish, crabs, and seahorses – each new creature adding to the girls’ excitement. Eleanor Melville, Belvoir’s marketing manager, has done a brilliant job making this trail magical for all ages, and we loved learning that part of the playground is inspired by HMS Resolution, honoring the family’s naval history.

But the fun didn’t stop there!

Just a short walk away is Belvoir’s Animal Park, where we met donkeys, sheep, goats, and even “Stu” the calf, a local legend who was hand-reared after a difficult start in life. The kids got to feed the animals, read their stories, and learn how they’re cared for – a real hands-on treat. It was nice to see how well loved they are (with staff in the enclosures giving cuddles) and how much space they have. Possibly the nicest animal farm experience we have seen.

For grown-ups (and garden-loving littles), a stroll through the Castle Gardens is a must.

Over 1,000 David Austin roses are in bloom, and the Regency-style interiors of the Castle itself are straight out of a period drama – literally! Belvoir Castle has starred in The Crown, The Young Victoria, and more. The new Film Lovers Tour (every Wed & Thurs) gives fans a behind-the-scenes peek into filming locations and stories.

We stopped at the tea rooms and indulged in some lunch. Chicken wings for the girls and cakes for me and my husband. The banana and caramel cake comes highly recommended by me. I can’t put into words just how delicious that slice of cake was.

The retail village is also worth a wander. We visited on a Tuesday when most of the shops are closed though, so bare that in mind when choosing the day to visit. There’s a children’s play area, a farm shop and a café here too.

Tickets are reasonably priced, too: £23.40 for adults, £9 for kids, and just £4.50 for the Animal Park (under 3s go free). You can book ahead and check tour dates at belvoircastle.com.

And for summer there’s a special offer ticket called The Gardens, Goats and Giggles Ticket that gives you entry to the gardens, farm and adventure playground for £9 (adults) and £5.40 (children) when pre-booked online. Do note that this does not include entry to the castle.

Why we loved it:

✅ Family-friendly fun with a magical twist
✅ Great mix of outdoor play, learning, and history
✅ Lovely for kids of all ages (and their grown-ups!)
✅ Animal interactions that genuinely delight
✅ Ideal for day-trips or weekend mini adventures

If you’re looking for a special way to soak up summer, Belvoir Castle really delivers. Pack a picnic, bring your explorers, and get ready to make some memories!
