If you’re looking for something to get you into the festive spirit in and around Cheltenham, Aladdin at the Everyman Theatre is an absolute must-see! Running until Sunday, 12th January, this year’s panto is everything you’d hope for – hilarious, heartwarming, and jam-packed with the usual magic and mayhem you can expect from writer and co-director Sam Holmes (who even has a part in the pantomime this year!)
The show is led by the brilliant Tweedy Twankey, returning as Gloucestershire’s favourite pantomime clown. He’s joined by the fantastic Kevin Brewis as dame Widow Twankey, and they both had the audience (young and old) roaring with laughter. You know the proper belly laugh type? We all laughed so much.
Miles Western is perfectly wicked as the scheming Abanazar (have a banana), and the chemistry between Luke Suri as Aladdin and Samira Mighty as Jasmine gives the story its heart. And of course, a special mention to Jessica Martin as the Spirit of the Ring, who adds just the right touch of magic!
The sets and costumes are bright and eye catching (prepare for some proper “wow” moments! Think Disney magic style), and the songs will have you singing along with plenty of familiar tunes for all age groups. Add to that some incredible choreography from the lively ensemble, and current day jokes and gags. It all makes for a superb festive evening out with the family.
Be sure to get the souvenir programme filled with activities for children, including Aladdin’s Codebuster, Colour Carpet Conundrum and The Cave of Wonders.
To ensure everyone gets the chance to enjoy the performance, The Everyman is offering:
Audio Described Performance: Friday, 13th December at 2pm
British Sign Language Interpreted Performance: Sunday, 15th December at 3pm
Relaxed Performances: Thursday, 9th January at 10:30am and 4:30pm
Pantos at the Everyman are a Gloucestershire tradition, and this one feels extra special. Whether you’re bringing the kids, the grandparents, or just yourself, Aladdin is pure magic. Don’t miss it!

Have you been to The Everyman Theatre before? The Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham is right in the heart of the town. It first opened in 1891 and you although modernised slightly inside it still retains many of the original features, giving it a lovely old-fashioned feel to it. They’ve got something for everyone throughout the year, whether it’s gripping dramas, laugh-out-loud comedies, or show-stopping musicals. And their annual panto is a real highlight (it’s now an annual tradition for us to travel from Birmingham to see it).
