We have completed our first term of Diddi Dance (although missed a couple at the end due to Matildas medical appointments) – Sorry Diddi Dance.

And we LOVED them.

From the moment we entered the room on our very first session, Natalie and Dawn made us feel welcome and at home. Matilda usually takes time to warm up to people but she was comfortable immediately, making new friends, laughing and dancing with them. Jemima was the same and seemed to settle quickly into the session and they both absolutely loved doing the gallop. So much so, it is now the new way they move at home when you ask them to hurry up or stand by the front door ready to go out, “gallop gallop gallop”.

This term was all about Country dancing and children came in wearing cowboy hats. Although Jemima wore her normal pink hat and seemed content with that.

There was lots of country dancing, learning different moves and working both within a team in a circle following instructions and also dancing as a solo dancer, improvising. Jemima and Matilda both loved this.

For those who haven’t heard of Diddi Dance before, it is a preschool group aimed at boys and girls aged 18 months to 4 and a half. The classes are full of a variety of funky dances including; jazz, charleston, country, salsa, jive etc.

Each term is based around a different dance.

The sessions are energetic and active and parents are encouraged to join in and get involved. There was such a lovely atmosphere in the room at all of the sessions we tried and all of the parents have been lovely.

There was lots of dancing, freestyle, with ribbons, maracas, they did some galloping in pairs, singing and counting (not only in English but French and Spanish too. How fab is that!!) and so much more. It’s amazing what could be fitted into a 45 minute session.

I liked that all of the children were having fun in the sessions, whilst the children were also learning without probably even realising it. Helping to prepare children for when they go to school, it’s definitely a fun and educational session.

Some of the key educational highlights for me in the sessions were;

💃Teaching them patience and the ability to wait their turn whilst lined up waiting for their prop

💃Teaching them the difference between their left and right hands using coloured maracas or pom poms

💃Learning team work when picking a partner and galloping together

💃Counting to 10 in 3 different languages.

We had a great time and would highly recommend you trying a session.

Thank you for having us this term Diddi Dance.

Matilda and Jemima both loved the sessions.
