A Haunted Canal Ghost Walk

Posted on 18/11/201823/08/2020

Last night (17th November 2018) me and Mr Trips headed over to St Paul’s Square (opposite the Jam House) to meet with Alex and Matthew from Ghosts Unlimited Tours at 7:30pm, for a Haunted Canal Ghost Walk.

Matthew is a medium and is spirit sensitive and Alex tells us that he has seen ghosts too. Alex was the gentleman leading this tour whilst Matthew helped and observed the surroundings.

We thought it was great. It was dark, eerie and 27 of us (yes, it was a fully booked first tour) all walked along the canal, hearing stories of ghost sightings and old canal stories.

The tour started off telling people a little about Birmingham, how it began as a small Saxon Village and in the early 12th Century it grew into a market town where merchants and craftsmen came to work, live and die. By the Middle Ages, the town was known for its wool, leather and metal working industry which resulted in the growth of the city. The growing population caused a rise in crime, from robberies to murder.

Jumping then to the early 19th Century and the dirty unsanitary streets, the epidemics of smallpox and scarlet fever causing a large number of deaths.

And this is when the tour commences… We get to walk around the city canals hearing the stories of murders, suicides and mysterious deaths and the stray souls wandering the streets, the towpaths and the tunnels from the aforementioned eras.

I don’t want to spoil the ghost stories for you but there’s some really good ones in there, bringing gossebumps to your arms.

The time of year helped the atmosphere of this tour. It was cold, dark with a slight breeze.

If you’re interested in going along to one, please do check out Ghosts Unlimited they do a variety of paranormal nights out, including ghost tours, overnight stays and haunted dinners with full paranormal investigations.

Last nights tour was £4.50 each or £8 for two people.

If you book quickly you might manage to get a space on the next Canal Ghost Tour which runs on 21st December 2018.

This is so cool, I didn’t even realise there was a ghost walk around Birmingham, definitely adding it to my bucket list
